What Is Astanga Yoga?
To the beginning practitioner, this highly energetic form of yoga may resemble
gymnastics or a vigorous form of Tai Chi or other martial art. Known for its flowing
qualities, Astanga Vinyasa Yoga (or "Power Yoga") on the gross level builds
strength, stamina, endurance and flexibility. At subtler levels, it detoxifies the
body and mind by creating a calm and balanced flow of energy (prana). The combination
of the two levels results in in "meditation in motion."
