Warwickshire CBA Competition Rules

 

1              Goodman Cup (Warwickshire Teams Championship)

** GREEN POINTS AWARDED **

A Knockout competition with some seeding.  The winning  team qualifies to represent WCBA in the EBU’s Pachabo Cup.  This is a Level 4 event.

 

2  Midland Circle Cup

A two-session multiple teams event.  In addition, a number of nearby counties are each invited to enter one team.  Prior entry essential.

 

3  Frank Cup

A single-session event for teams of four.

 

4  Warwickshire League and Handicap Knockout

A League of (currently) five divisions with promotion and relegation for teams of four or more, representing clubs affiliated to the WCBA.  There is also a handicap knockout competition for teams playing in the League.  These are Level 4 events.

 

5  Marston Cooke Cups (Warwickshire Pairs Championship)

5.1 Pairs qualify for the 2nd round from heats played at various clubs.  Entry fee is 50p per head for participating players.  Pairs qualify for the final from two 2nd round heats, the number qualifying depending on the total entry.

5.2 The first four pairs from the final (scoring 50% or over) qualify to compete in the EBU’s Corwen Trophy Competition.  The first available eight pairs qualify to represent the WCBA in the Edgar Foster Cup competition (see 9).

 

6          Invitation Pairs         

Pairs competitions played over nine evenings at monthly intervals with annual promotion and relegation between the Premier Division (LEVEL 4) and First and Second Divisions in Birmingham and Coventry.

 

7     Joyce Hare Salver (County Mixed Pairs Championships)

A Single-Session event with pairs qualifying via club mixed pairs events.  Players may play in multiple heats.

 

8  Townsend and Roger Quincey Cups (Ladies’ and Men’s Pairs Championships)

Two one-session events played simultaneously at the same venue with duplicated boards.

 

9  Edgar Foster Cups

Eight pairs from the WMBC Championship Pairs final join eight from each of Staffordshire and Worcestershire in a two session inter-county pairs event

 

10  Midland Flitch

The tournament committee will determine how this event is to be represented on an annual basis.

 

11  Garden Cities (Teams of 8)

Entry via Clubs only.  All players must have been members of the Club they are representing for 3+ months.  A team consists of 8 players only (EBU reg) Pairings can be changed after session 1 in WCBA heat but not the team members.  Members can change between heats.

 

12  Green Point Events

These are held from time to time in conjunction with, and at the discretion of, the English Bridge Union.

 

13  GolfPrint Trophy

The English teams of four competition for golf clubs.  Winners of the WCBA heat qualify for the Regional Final. Players are not required to be EBU members; no team may include more than one player of Regional Master rank, and no player of higher rank.

    

14  Simultaneous Pairs

Held annually at clubs during a week in April.  Proceeds in aid of St Mary’s  Hospice.

    

15  Charity Swiss Teams – City of Birmingham Cup

Held annually, proceeds in aid of St Mary’s Hospice

 

16  Introductory Pairs

Open to members and non-members of WCBA and EBU who hold fewer than 5000 local points.  To be run in conjunction with the Warwickshire Pairs (See 5.1).  This is a Level 2 event.
