About Vickie Leigh Krudwig

For more than twelve years, Vickie Leigh Krudwig has been exciting and igniting the imagination of thousands of children all over Colorado with her hands-on, interactive programs. Her goal is to make children passionate about reading and writing. Kids can learn the power of saying "Yes, I can!"

As a child Vickie struggled with reading, while her twin excelled. Dyslexia and poor vision made reading seem like torture and a trip to the library was worse! While her siblings gathered up books, Vickie looked for ways to avoid them. When she was 20, Vickie finally discovered the joy of reading. Her husband, a college student at the time, spent hours visiting the local library. It was there that she discovered Charlie and The Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl! Vickie has been hooked on books ever since!

Her book Cucumber Soup (Sopa de Pepino) was awarded a Benjamin Franklin Award in 1999 and was a finalist for the Florida Children's Book Award. Vickie's illustrations have been published nationally and internationally. Her work includes the illustration and design for Cats, Dogs, Bugs and Frogs - A collection of children's poetry and From the Theater of My Mind, both by Frank Lloyd Kramer. She also illustrated Taming The Tornado Tube - 50 Weird and Wacky Things You Can Do With A Tornado Tube, by Steve Spangler, author and television host. Vickie has also published several articles for children appearing in Highlights for Children, Wild Outdoor World, Kid City Magazine (Children's Television Workshop), Think Inc, and illustrations for Gary Gerhardt's Nature Notebook Column in the Rocky Mountain News.

Vickie is an active member of the Colorado Chapter of the International Reading Association (CCIRA), the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), and the Colorado Independent Publishers Association (CIPA). She is a past president of the West Adams County Council of the International Reading Association.
