Regular as Clockwork

Some things happen regularly. The earth, for example rotates on its axis about every 24 hours.

The earth rotates about the sun about every 365 days (the extra bits are added together once every 4 years to make 29th February)

The moon gets in the way of the sun about every 6000 days. This causes a solar eclipse like the one scheduled for 11th August 1999.

Various comets spin around the universe and revisit our vicinity regularly, even though there may thousands of years between visits, e.g. Halley's Comet, the Hale-Bopp Comet.

What time regularity can you find out about the people you know?

How much time do you spend on the various activities you do each day? each week? each month? each year?

Draw a pie chart to show how you spend your school time each week in various lessons and break times.

Draw a pie chart to show how you spend all of your time in a week, including sleeping, eating, leisure activities, watching TV, doing homework.

Calculate how much of the first 50 years of your life you would spend (a) sleeping, (b) eating, (c) watching TV at the same rates as you do now.
