Maths Links

The year 2000 is "Maths Year". Now there are Numeracy initiatives in both primary and secondary education. Most of us want the best for today's children to help make them numerate, whilst at the same time enjoying the science of numbers and maths.

Here are some interesting and useful links for maths teachers, primary & secondary and parents. These sites are also promoted on the web site for MathSphere. MathSphere publish resources which can be photocopied and used within the classroom. The work is aimed at 5 to 11 year olds, but there is material which is still relevant in the secondary sphere. The CD ROM is very good value and has an excellent maths dictionary on it.

Here's what MathSphere has to say about these sites:

  • Brain Teasers Good problem solving activities for years 3 to 7. You can use the hints page to help you out.

  • Magic Squares  Plenty of interesting ideas here, from simple to complex magic squares. Good investigative material.

  • Polyhedra Interesting site about complex three dimensional shapes. Particularly interesting pages are: intersecting-faces and paper-models.

  • Abacus Very informative site all about the abacus and how it is used in mathematics in the present day and in the past.

  • The School Page Excellent site for schools and parents to visit. Plenty of further links as well.

  • Mimosa Interesting European aspects and timetabling resources. Other links include IQ and Personality Tests.
