These questions are to be asked during the knowledge testing section of
a test by a board of Instructors. The questions are designed to test a
student’s knowledge on what they’re learning while at the same time
demonstrating the fact that as a Villari’s student they have a unique
identity in the field of martial arts. Learning techniques is only one
facet of the arts.
Q: Where were the
Shaolin martial arts developed and when?

Hunan province of
China appx. 495 AD
Q: What does the
word Shaolin translate to in English?
A:
Little forest or
young forest
Q: What does the
word Kempo translate to?
A:
Way of the fist.
Q: The name of the
Shaolin monk credited with formalizing Shaolin?
A:
Boddharama.
Q: How many
numbered combinations are there and why?
A:
108, usually
attributed to the Hall of Wooden Dummies in the
temple of which
there were 108.

Q: How did the
original belt ranking system originate?
A:
The white belt
turned colors from a progression of sweat stains, grime, grass stains,
and dirt until t became a brown to black color. It was considered a sign
of seniority to have such a belt so they were not washed.

Where and when was the first Villari school opened?
A:

Four: hitting,
