Organization for popularization of the nyckelharpa (key-fiddle) in America
Local group of fiddlers who play Scandinavian (mostly Swedish) music. This site lists lots of Scandinavian dance activities in California especially, but also in other parts of America and Scandinavia.
"The" place for Americans interested in the Hardanger fiddle.
This site is entirely in Swedish, but there are two very nice tunes there that can be printed on paper or listened to over the computer. This is the site for the fiddlers' association in Gästrikland, my favorite musical place in Sweden.
This site is both in English and Swedish. It is the fiddler's association in Uppland, where fiddle and nyckelharpa are played equally as much.
O'Neill's Collection is the best-known collection of Irish music, published over 100 years ago. It's no wonder that people have put the tunes on the web now.
Henrik Norbeck has collected lots of tunes for his site, Swedish and Irish.
I have a copy of this book, published in 1843. The Elias Howe who published the tune collection is not the inventor of the sewing machine, but they both lived in Boston at the same time. I believe they were cousins. This book is made up of popular fiddle tunes of the day, transposed to the key of C for the newly invented accordion (Accordeon, as he spelled it).
I found this site when I was looking for Danish tunes. It has a nice collection of tunes from other places, as well.
This is "Puma's" new page. He is one of the best-known nyckelharpa players in or out of Sweden, and an all-around nice guy, as well.
I came across this site (in Swedish or English), and thought it was interesting. There are lots more aspects to these creatures than can be covered in a small website, but it's a good introduction to old Swedish folkbeliefs.
This is the site that tells about the contradance I play at every month in the Gold Rush town of Sonora. Just about every weekend there is another traditional dance there, too... Cajun, English Country Dancing, and others. If you are in the area, check it out.
