I have worked as an illustrator and wood
carver for 45 years.
Where possible I endeavour to use
indigenous woods. Wood like all natural products has to grow and hard woods take a long
time to mature. Carvers, like all of us have a responsibility when using the
products of nature, we must use them wisely and carefully. I like to think of
the carver as a person paying tribute to this material by prolonging its
usefulness in a way that adds beauty and a new life to the mature wood.
