TAWODI'S AMERICAN INDIAN GENEALOGY PAGE
Welcome to
TAWODI'S
AMERICAN INDIAN GENEALOGY
Researching Indian ancestry and heritage is a challenging
and rewarding endeavor. It involves much more than finding
great-great-grandparents on a census, or finally locating the Family Bible.
Indian genealogy, like all genealogy, is much more than just names
and dates--it is a study of the people, history, and culture of our ancestors.
Whether you are trying to establish your heritage for the purpose of enrolling
in an Indian tribe, or merely wanting to fill out the family tree, the basics
remain the same--know your subject, learn your family, follow the clues.
These pages have been created to help you get
started, find resources and learn about your ancestor's tribe. Oftentimes,
what is a blur of confusion in the beginning becomes crystal clear when placed
in the context of tribal history, culture, migration patterns and social
structure. "Doing" Indian genealogy is fascinating and frustrating,
but never boring. It is a labor of love, a learning experience and
a growing process. Relax and enjoy the journey of a lifetime.
