Personal Life:
Ms. Roper, formally known as Evester Johnson, was born in Palestine, Arkansas. Her formal education began at Palestine Training School under the principal-ship of Mr. Walker Fleming. Ms. Roper isa proud member of the last graduating class from the historic Lincoln High School in Forrest City, Arkansas. Ms. Roper resides in Olathe, Kansas and is the mother of four children, two boys and two girls.
Professional Life:
In 1993 Ms. Roper received “ The Award of Excellence” from the H.W. Wilson Publishing Company of New York. That same year she received, from the state of Kansas, the first Minority Scholarship for Graduate Studies. In May of 1997 Evester received an an award from the Kansas City Star, the Kansas City Missouri School District and Center School District, honoring her as one who continues to demonstrate the sprit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s dream…The Storyteller for Peace.”
In February (1997), Ms. Roper performed for the first lady for the United States Mrs. Hillary Rodham-Clinton.
Evester Roper is an international professional storyteller. She is also a Library consultant, public speaker, touring artist with the Kansas Arts Commission, Mid-West Arts Fund and a consultant for Kansas City’s Lyric Opera. She is Life-member of the National Association of African-American Storytellers.
Ms. Roper holds a B.A. in Business Administration from Mid-America Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas as well as a Masters’ Degree in Library and Information Science from Emporia State University, Emporia Kansas. She has served as an adjunct professor at Emporia State University. She received her PhD. in Education from the Unversity of Ravenhurst on May 11, 2002.
