Our History

We are involved with Siberians due to our love of the breed and the enjoyment they bring to our family. Our family has been involved with Siberians since 1979. At SnoeBear, we treat each of our Siberians as a unique member of the family and participate in many activities with our Siberians. Our primary interest is showing in conformation. We also drive a couple of recreational dogsled teams. Glenn has been involved in racing Siberian Huskies since the 1970's. He has been involved with a variety of racing lines, and has a lot of knowledge on the history of the breed.  He has been a member of  ISDRA, Can Am Sledders Assoc., Pensy Club, Trail Breakers Sled Dog Club, and the Seppala Siberian Sled Dog Club. He was, also, a founding Member of the Lake Erie Alleghany Siberian Husky Club. Beth and Glenn held such offices as President and Race Chairman. He now races a team of Seppala Siberians. Beth, Tim, and Rick are more involved in the conformation aspect of the breed. They travel to around 80 dog shows a year. Tim and Rick have both been top junior handlers. Tim was the # 3 Working Group Junior in 2002 when he aged out. Rick was the #1 Junior handler of All Breeds in the United States. They both have worked for Proffesional Handlers, and have a lot of experience in showing a variety of breeds. We are extensively involved with the Erie Kennel Club. Beth has served in a multitude of capacities from Board Member to her current position of Secretary.  Tim is currently Show Chairman for the Erie Kennel Club's fall show.

Our goal in breeding is to produce quality puppies with excellent temperaments that are sound and conform to the AKC standard for the breed. Our Siberians have a happy, confident, and loving personality, avoiding shyness, aggressiveness or hyperactivity. A sound Siberian is a healthy, athletic dog, free of inherited defects such as hip dysplasia, eye abnormalities, epilepsy and one who possesses good conformation. What is good conformation? Conformation is a measure of how the physical characteristics and personality of the dog compare to the AKC standard for the breed. The AKC standard defines various attributes which make the Siberian able to perform it’s original function as a medium-sized, working dog capable of pulling a sled with a light load over long distances in arctic conditions.

To achieve these breeding goals requires an extensive knowledge about the history and function of the breed. Gaining this knowledge requires a willingness to read, listen and observe. We have a personal desire to increase our understanding of the breed and collect Siberian books, articles, magazines and pedigrees. We involve ourselves in the sport of dogs and know many long time breeders from whom we seek advice. Our breedings are planned, with careful consideration of the genetic phenotypes of both sire and dam. Both sire and dam have been certified free of hip dysplasia and eye abnormalities by the OFA (Orthopedic Foundation of America) and CERF (Canine Eye Foundation of America).

Each year a large number of dogs are destroyed in animal shelters. As a breeder we are responsible for breeding only the best dogs available. We raise our puppies in an environment which properly socializes them to avoid personality and behavior problems which often lead to unwanted pets. Our puppies are whelped and raised in our home.  It is also our responsibility to assist new pet owners in the raising of their pups for the life of their dog. We take a lot of care and consideration to match the personality of each puppy to his/her owner.

We want you to be an informed, responsible buyer and pet owner. It is our responsibility to do everything in our power to produce quality Siberian Huskies and place these puppies in quality homes where they will remain as loving family members and not destroyed in a shelter. We will be glad to provide you with honest answers to any questions you have and to help you decide if owning a dog is right for you and if the Siberian Husky is the right breed for you!!!

Please feel free to contact us for any information regarding Siberians, showing, racing, or any aspect of pure bred dogs!!!!!!!!!!!
