SURREY BEEKEEPERS' ASSOCIATION (WEYBRIDGE DIVISION)
Annual Report prepared for the SBKA AGM, 25/11/2006

A few new beekeepers who have attended John Hamer's beginners' Courses have joined us this year, bringing our membership up to 29 full and 7 associate members at the end of the year. Others who have just finished the course will be joining as full members in the new year. There are also 5 newsletter-only members, who wish to keep in touch with the Division but have no bees.

Our annual Winter Meeting was an open meeting to which we invited all other Surrey Divisions and theTwickenham and Thames Valley beekepers. The invited speaker was Roger Patterson, who gave a report on queen problems and invited the participation of beekepers in his data collection. This meeting was well supported by Weybridhge members, but sadly few others came.

There have been monthly meetings throughout the summer in the gardens or apiaries of members. Tests for resistance of Varroa mites to pyrethroids (Apistan and Bayvarol) have been carried out at some of these meetings and on the colonies of some members; overwhelming evidence of resistance has been confirmed in a few of these.

There have been no reports of brood disease outbreaks in the Division this year.

Individual members or groups have been involved in the following:
The Surrey County Show
The Egham Royal Show
The SBKA Council
A honeybee/bee products stand at the autumn event at the RHS Garden, Wisley
The Central Association of Bee-Keepers (attending conferences and editing publications)
Attendance at the National Honey Show and the BBKA Convention at Stoneleigh
Talks to groups of children and adults
Swarm collection
Advice on bumble bees, solitary bees and wasps
