The Surrey Beekeepers Association (SBKA) is
made up of nine local clubs; Croydon Division, Epsom Division,
Farnham Division, Guildford Division, Horsham & Crawley Division,
Kingston Division, Reigate Division, Weybridge Division and Wimbledon
Division. Each Division looks after beekeeping interests in their
own area. There are no specific boundaries, and people can join
whichever club they like. Division club members are automatically
members of Surrey Beekeepers Association and also of The British
Beekeepers Association.
You can become a member by joining one of our local
clubs.
Classes of Membership.
A. Ordinary Membership (carrying full benefits)
B. Associate Membership (carrying limited benefits) for non-beekeepers
only.
C. Junior Membership (carrying full benefits) for under 18 years
of age.
D. Life Membership (carrying full benefits)
E. Honorary Membership (carrying full benefits)

Full members are covered by BBKA public and products liability
insurance.
and Bee Disease Insurance for three colonies.
Most Divisions also Loan out Honey Extractors & Ripeners to
their members.
Some Divisions have spaces for members to keep their hives in
club aparies.
Members who are in arrears with their subscriptions after the 1st December in any year shall not thereafter he entitled to receive 'Bee Craft" or any other benefit of Membership in that year until arrears have been paid.
SBKA Benefits of Membership.
According to our rules, which are due
for revision, Ordinary Members, Junior Members, Life Members and
Honorary Members are entitled to the all the benefits below.
Associate Members are only entitled to (1), (J) and (K) benefits.
(A) Two free visits in all from a Visiting Adviser to give advice upon application to the appropriate Divisional Secretary. Such advice shall be limited to examining and reporting upon stocks up to six in number and shall not include operations such as, spring-cleaning, doubling, requeening, transferring, uniting, taking honey, extracting etc. Members requiring services not included in a free visit or requiring additional visits may make arrangements direct with a Divisional Adviser and shall he responsible for the payment of the Adviser's fees and expenses.
(B) Free advice by post at any time on application to the appropiate Divisional Secretary provided a stamped addressed envelope is enclosed for reply.
(C) One free copy of "Bee Craft" every month.
(D) Free insurance against third party risks arising from bee stings.
(E) Bee Disease Insurance for a limited cover against the risk of bees and/or equipment having to be destroyed because of Foul Brood Disease provided a claim has been lodged with the Divisional Secretary and the apiary and been inspected by an authorised B.D.I. Inspector before destruction of bees or equipment has been effected.
(F) Free examination of bees suspected to be suffering from disease.
(G) The right to use the Associations honey seal.
(H) The right to enter for the Association's classes at any Honey Show.
(I) The right to attend any garden meeting or lecture held by any Division of the Association.
(J) The right to attend and vote at any General Meeting of the Association and of the Members own Division.
(K) The right to hold, if appointed, any office in the Association and in the Member's own Division.

The BBKA represents us at national, government, EEC and international
levels.

1. Public & Products Liability Insurance for Members
Covers individual beekeepers only, who are direct or indirect
members of the BBKA. The Public Liability covers each of our members
in the UK. No one individual to operate more than 39 hives and
includes cover for those who attend farmers markets. The Product
Liability is a blanket cover for the whole Association. For information
on the above insurance please contact BBKA Headquarters or see
members download area.
2. All Risks Insurance (EXTRA COST)
This covers loss of or damage to hives and equipment belonging
to an insured member and also bees (where hives are damaged by
insured perils), arising from all risks not specifically excluded.The
annual premiums are:
COST: Home Apiaries - £2.00 per £100 sum insured
Out Apiaries - £3.00 per £100 sum insured
COVER: All Risks of physical loss or damage subject to £50.00
excess on each and every loss.
SUM INSURED: To represent full replacement cost. Further details
and forms of application can be obtained from our Headquarters
at Stoneleigh. NB: When members wish to claim under these schemes,
notification must be sent to the BBKA Headquarters at the earliest
possible moment.
Membership Card

The members named on this card is covered under the BBKA public
and product liability insurance scheme. Please present this card
when claiming membership benefits and privileges and quote your
membership number in any communication. Advise your local secretary
of any change to your contact details. On the back of the card
are a list of providers currently offer privileges to members.
Cards are only valid for paid-up members and not issued for other
classes of local membership e.g. associate, family, social etc.
3. Brood Diseases Insurance through BDI
Ltd
The members of BDI are the Member Associations. The minimum payable
by each Member Association as a condition of membership is £2.00
per annum for each of its beekeeping members which insures 1-3
colonies.
Beekeeping members can insure more colonies for the following additional premiums:
Up to 5 colonies (including the basic three)
an additional £2.00
Up to 10 colonies (including the basic three) an additional £5.25
Up to 15 colonies (including the basic three) an additional £7.75
Up to 20 colonies (including the basic three) an additional £9.50
Up to 25 colonies (including the basic three) an additional £11.10
More than 25 colonies (including the basic three) check with your
treasurer

There are two Schemes - A & B:
Scheme A is for beekeepers with up to 39 colonies, who are members
of an association. Scheme B is for beekeepers with 40 or more

5. BBKA Honey Show at The Royal Show, Stoneleigh
July 2006
This is staged in and around the BBKA Headquarters and includes
the tranquil setting of the Bee Garden right in the centre of
the Showground. This is the only Honey Show staged by the British
Beekeepers Association. Schedules for the Honey Show are available
from BBKA Headquarters, the closing date for entries is usually
around the beginning of May. In addition to the Show there are
stands offering bee products for sale, skep making demonstrations,
observation hives, bee handling demonstrations, information on
starting beekeeping and much more. Why not come along and see
for yourselves, you will be made very welcome. We also have stands
in the Smallholders' and Flower Show areas.
6. The National Honey Show. 19th - 21st
October 2006
The 2006 National Honey Show will be held in the RAF Museum, Hendon,
London on 19th - 21st October. The General Secretary of the National

level

Modules and list of fees for the above examinations are available
from the Secretary of the Examinations Board.
8. The BBKA News
The BBKA NEWS is published six times a year and contains up to
date information and articles relating to beekeeping from the
BBKA. In addition it contains advertisements by services and manufacturers
of beekeeping equipment. Information on advertising rates and
any articles of interest should be sent to the Editor: Mrs S.
Blake, Stratton Court, Over Stratton, South Petherton, Somerset
TA13 5LQ . More info. Members can download the latest BBKA News
and back issues.
9. Audio Visual Aids and Slide Libraries
The Audio Visual aids and Slide (lending) Libraries are an important
part of the BBKA's service to members. A wide selection of video
cassettes, projection slides and sound cassettes on beekeeping
and allied subjects is available. A microscope slide service is
also available. The demands made are greater each year as more
Associations, local Branches and individuals avail themselves
of this facility when arranging their programme of educational
activities. Early booking is advised especially for the winter
months. For all bookings please send request to headquarters at
least three weeks before they are required. A Catalogue and order
form can be downloaded from the members area or 75p inc PP from
headquarters.
10. Advice to members on all beekeeping
matters
This is available directly from headquarters for matters dealing
with administration and for Individual Membership. For advice
on beekeeping skills, particularly swarms, contact the nearest
Member Association's Secretary. The BBKA website now offers a
24hour message board which may provide the quickest response.
