The Honey tent is one of the largest on the
show ground and is at all times packed with people, especially
around the time of the flying bee demos. The exhibits on the show
bench are a superb range of both set and runny honey, wax of various
colours and honey biscuit and cakes. The microscopes are set on
various parts of the bees anatomy, fascinating the children, who
also enjoy the straw draw and rolling their own candles. Honey
is for sale at reasonable prices, and the public can enjoy a taste
of honey spread on a scone
Honey show entries must be made by 27 April
2007 and staged by 9am on day of show.

GUILDFORD Division Honey Show 2006
Congratulations to all who entered
and helped us to make this another successful show.
The weather smiled on us, which helped to ensure a good flow of
visitors through the show area, which was light, roomy, and free
from wind. Squires did us very well, as previously, and at times
we had to work hard to answer questions as well as run the show.
Moyra Davidson judged the entries with the care and consideration
we have come to expect, making her discreet comments to help those
entering a future show where appropriate. She said she still misses
the Division, so it was doubly good to keep the contact going.
We could have done with lots more of you entering, and more entries,
but we had enough to make a decent showing - thank goodness!
Peter Dawson won the Waldock Cup for most overall
points (yet again) with 57 points, fairly closely pursued by Liz
Jones with 41. Mary Bentall just pipped Dave Elliott for third
place. To his embarrassment, Peter also carried off the Pascoe
Tankard for the best comb for extraction, and the little Gadge
Cup for best honey in the show. Clearly he needs more competition
next year.

REIGATE Division Honey Fair 2006
It was our best Honey Fair yet. We had a constant stream of visitors
and thanks to the efforts of many of our members, we were able
to entertain them with a wide range of exhibits. We had a tasting
table for honey from many different parts of the world, an exhibition
of the many different products from the hive, demonstrations of
beekeeping equipment, a very popular childrens corner and
not one but three observation hives. Our honey sales stand was
as popular as ever and our honey show attracted a very high standard
of entries. Our show judge, Mary Hill, was hard pressed to get
through the large number of entries. Two notable guests at the
show were local MP Crispin Blunt and Deputy Mayor, Councillor
Mrs Dorothy Ross-Tomlin. They were both with us for over an hour
and we were able to explain some of the political problems we
face as beekeepers. They were most interested to talk to David
Rudland about his role as a seasonal bee inspector. Crispin Blunts
wife Dorothy and son Freddie were also present. Freddie seemed
fascinated by the observation hives and we hope we have a potential
new recruit!
