Sam Byerly invaded Earth in 1953 near Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania. Raised in a blue collar,
Ukrainian neighborhood Sammy's only defense for the regular torture of being
forced to watch "The Lawrence Welk Show"
on Saturday nights was to take up music and travel as many weekends as
possible.
Having lived and played in most of the music Mecca’s around the
country like Schwenksville, PA, Parsons, WV, and Montgomery, IL, Sammy's
music has been influenced by Blues, Bluegrass, Country, Swing, Folk, and Fun.
Sammy seeks peace and solitude in the refuge his words and music create.
"If just one CEO is compelled to remove his imported silk tie and bob
heads with me while I perform "A Bad Day Fishing Beats A Good Day At
Work", then there is truly hope for this planet". His real passion
is fishing and playing string band music with friends like Dale Stallman,
John Noffsinger, Gary Gaul and especially Terri
Byerly, his lovely wife.
Sammy's music has been featured on nationally renowned radio programs like
"The Midnight Special", WFMT, Chicago and "Mountain
Stage", West Virginia Public Radio. In 1998, Sammy won the Lake County
Folk Festival song writing competition and has been featured at a variety of
acoustic music festivals and venues around the Midwest.
The strength of Sammy's performance centers on his honesty and energy.
"He is a natural both as songwriter and performer, and delivers his
songs like the thoughts they express were just rolling off his
tongue"..........Dirty Linen Magazine.
Two recordings are available from Sammy including "I Don't Wanna Be Mom", 1994 and "Tie Me Down",
1997 featuring all original songs. Future plans are in the works for a third
album of original songs and other audience favorites.
