Richard
Torgerson has been combining his financial acumen
with a lifelong commitment to social justice since
becoming a stock broker with Dean Witter in 1985.
In 1993, his private practice was organized and in
1996 he joined the Progressive Asset Management
(PAM) Network. In 2004, he was named PAM's Director
of Social Research & Shareholder
Advocacy. In this capacity, Richard manages
PAM's social research, analysis and portfolio
screening services, including relations with
third-party money management firms. He also
oversees the shareholder advocacy program at PAM,
working with both clients and outside coalitions to
mobilize support for social/environmental
initiatives.
Professional
Expertise
Specializing
in index linked note evaluation and technical stock
analysis, Richard offers conservative and growth
oriented portfolio management for families and
institutions using his proprietary Risk Aware
Management Program. He carries professional
licenses as a Registered Representative (Series 7
and 63), Registered Principal (Series 24) and
Registered Investment Advisor (Series
65).
Richard
has been interviewed by several publications and
electronic media, such as National Public Radio
and the Philadelphia Inquirer. He has
written on social investing topics in the
Baltimore Sun, the Chesapeake
Environmental Business Guide and the New
Physician.
A
Lifetime of Activism
Richard
serves as President of Nuclear Free America,
Inc., a main provider of corporate information
about nuclear weapons and military contractors to
the social investing movement. Richard has served
as co-chair of Maryland Business Leaders for
Sensible Priorities, member of the Divestment
Committee of the Baltimore City Development
Commission and as Vice-Chair of the Greater
Baltimore Environmental Center. For five years
before becoming a stock broker, Richard was a
low-income tenant organizer and civil rights
activist for Baltimore Neighborhoods, Inc.
Richard's 21 years in finance and a lifetime in
social activism have been recognized by being one
of very few persons in the country listed in both
Who's Who in Service to the Earth and Who's Who in
Finance and Industry. A graduate of The Johns
Hopkins University (BA, 1980), Richard is married
with two children.
