The crowd was rejoicing, before Him they laid palm branches down,
They cheered Him as king, for upon His head they lay a royal crown.
Here was their mighty deliverer, freedom was soon to be theirs,
And when the victory was won, they were all going to be His heirs.
So many years they had suffered, their money, their homes taken away,
But now all this would be over, for their king rode into town that day.
Freedom would come, when He delivered them out of their cruel hands
And all their worldly goods would be returned, as well as all their land.
The shouts of joy grew to anger when they felt He'd let them down,
By allowing Himself to be arrested, and wear that thorny crown.
Where was their mighty conqueror, and the battle He should have won,
This beaten and battered man, certainly could not be the one.
They never took the time to listen, or saw this is why He came,
That by giving up Himself, their lives would never be the same.
So when they all gather again and stood to make the choice,
"Crucify Him, Crucify Him", they all shouted, as in one voice.
Yes, their king did ride into town that blessed day,
He was soon going to deliver them, but in a far richer way.
Freedom was His plan, And riches beyond compare,
For His appointed time had come, the time was drawing near.
So the Lamb was led to slaughter, on the cross He would die this day,
Giving a freedom never dreamed of, for His death was the only way.
Yet even as he died, all they could see was their earthly plight,
Blinded as they were, they didn't see the darkness overcome by His light.
So when earthly snares and trials beset you, troubles all around,
Who do you see riding down that road, as you lay palm branches down?
Do you still see your Savior, His life given that you may be free,
Or do you see the riches here, as opposed to the riches of eternity?
A child was born in the city of Bethlehem, that all mankind might be free,
A mighty King did ride that day, toward His destiny to die at Calvary.
A conqueror He most certainly was, for death was defeated that day,
The battle was won, victors are we, for by His light we can now find the way.
