Four
Lane Blacktop, Swindon
(The Old ATC Hut, Horsham Crescent, Swindon, Wilts)
Southern 32 Round - Sunday, October 13th 2002
We will be hosting a round of the
Southern 32 championship on our updated track on 13th October 2002.Since
our last public meeting we have built a new bridge, improved the track power
and installed PC-based lap counters and race control.
Format for the day's racing will be the
standard - individual championships in the morning for 1/32 Production cars and
the in-built Falcon series and the Le Mans Team race in the afternoon. Car rules and regulations are available on the Dowtys club website,
or from Series coordinator Ian Fisher on 0208 866 8571.
The track is a 77 foot four-lane figure
of eight. It’s a former portable track so is not supersmooth – don’t run your
body on the deck at the front. Lap records for Production cars stand at about
39 laps in 3 minutes. We confidently expect this to be broken on the day if not
before!
The track is also open every Tuesday night from 7.45 onwards, and we
will be racing both 1/32 and 1/24 Production cars every week. Please feel free
to come and have a practice, or join us on the day.
On October 13th we will open at 8am, run
a great meeting, provide rolls to order at lunchtime and drinks and sweets over
the bar, and finish the meeting by 5pm.
The clubroom building is non-smoking,
and there are toilets and plenty of box space.
If anyone wants to stay overnight in the
area I will have floor space available close to the track on Saturday night, or
look in the outlying villages for B and B. Swindon itself isn't up to much, but
the surrounding villages and towns are pretty and you are close to Marlborough,
Stonehenge, Avebury, Salisbury, Bath and Oxford for shopping and sightseeing.
