Home
The Pythian Home is basically a child-care facility. We are licensed for sixty two children. This is down dramatically from the days of providing care for over one hundred children. Again, state regulations have changed the way we do things. Our ratio is eight children for each adult, any child younger than five is counted twice. We are regulated as to living space, and our dorms are more like a home. Some changes from the past were for the better. We receive placement of children from age three to age thirteen. All resident children must attend school to remain residents, to include college or trade school.
Our goal is to make responsible, independent adults of the children entrusted to our care. We start with a child as they come to us and try to develop character. Each child has chores both in and out of the dorm. The staff and children attend local churches every Sunday, helping develop a sense of well being and self worth. It is imperative that each individual believe they are important.
Children placed at the Pythian Home come from varied backgrounds. The child is placed in the Home by a managing conservator, and the staff of the Home work in tandem with that conservator to meet the needs of that child. At the Home, the "family" is the center of all things. It is our goal to work that child back into a family unit if at all possible. Each dorm is a family unit, with a couple as the surrogate mom and dad. Whatever they do, is done as a family unit, exemplifying the importance of the family. Regardless how long the child is at the Home, he or she receives unconditional love. We believe in the Pythian motto of "Friendship, Charity, and Benevolence".
