Yes you can work at your own pace and Mike actively encourages you to do so. It will only take a matter of days/weeks to get the basics. I have been here for a little over 3 months now and I simply cannot believe how great my piano playing is already :-)...(and it is over 20 years since my last piano lesson, when I first came here I couldn't even remember where middle C was!) However, after spending a year here (and getting a years worth of Mikes never ending support and help) I know I am going to become a great piano player...and realise a dream I have had since packing in piano lessons 20 something years ago..."to play in front of an audience" You will really enjoy Pianomagic, infact if it takes over your life like it has mine...you will be want a life membership!! I actually joined for three months, because I was as sceptical as this question sounds. I will definitely be renewing for a year, come April. The basics of the course are not in the least hard to understand, but after that you can just keep developing and learning new things, via the interactive forums which involve everyone from raw beginners to very accomplished players who still want to learn more. Hard to understand is something I could never say about this course. Mike sees to that and our BIG helping hand is our Forum--we help each other and support each other. It is so much fun communicating with people with an interest in music. I consider them all my friends long distance. We'd all like to be moving along faster than we are able, but, yes we end up moving and working at our own pace--there's no other way to move. I'm so grateful to know that I'm "connected" to Piano Magic for a whole year, and I sure don't intend to end it there. I will definitely sign up for 2005. Rusti

Mike, again my response doesn't appear on my computer screen--sorry if this is a duplicate. I have found Mike's program especially suitable for my busy schedule. I do not have time for a schuled private lesson every week, but with Mike's program I can simply get on the computer when I want to. Also, Mike's lessons are so simple, you wonder why private teachers don't teach these things in the first few lessons the way Mike does. I have taken a few private lessons, but Mike's are so easy you don't start off sounding like a beginner who plays simple songs like "twinkle, twinkle little star". Pam Shedd

I am a PMMO member, and frankly, I don't know why Michael decided on a yearly membership. I CAN tell you that the techniques Mike teaches are EXTREMELY simple in principle, but take practice to implement. You are free to move as quickly as you can and Mike, along with the PMMO members will support you all the way. PS: I will be renewing for another year, not because I'm slow or PMMO is difficult, but to learn MORE of the great techniques Mike teaches! I'm HOOKED! ;) H.S.

When I clicked that 'register' thing that day, I was also curious why this course requires one-year membership. I thought it would be like some of the other internet courses that offer a one year membership where the course has about 20 structured lessons and you have one year to have access to these lessons. PMMO has MUCH MORE than this. While it is true that PMMO has 20+ structured lessons, the MUCH MORE is hidden behind the Interactive Forum where there are daily ongoing discussions, new lessons, lots and lots of video demonstrations, lots of audio instructions and tailor made lessons for the students. The one year membership is for the benefit of the members to have an actual live setting of a class where the instructor interacts with the students and the students also interact with one another to enhance the learning process. Piano Magic is GREAT behind the scene. Come on in and see it for yourself.

As with any program, you have to give it time. You will begin to build a can play list of simple tunes, that you'll practice and then learn to decorate with arpeggios and 10th chords and more stuff...and soon you'll be able to amaze your friends and relatives... and yourself. The year also gives you plenty of time to record your tunes, as there is a recital hall where people can listen to you play piano. So you're never alone, and you have direct feedback on how you did - there is encouragement every step of the way. You are definitely encouraged to work at your own pace. You play within your current comfy ability, and stretch beyond the comfort zone ONE-STEP-AT-A-TIME. There are members here for over 2 years, and everyone is playing piano on a different level. I think everyone moves at his or her own pace in learning. But the process is very interactive with Mike. If I were Mike, I certainly wouldn't want to create a 'one-ended stick' where I felt an obligation to respond to you forever for one relatively small fee. A year seems very ample time to go through Mike's course and interact with him a lot. It is also good business sense -- creates an income stream. (Sorry if I spoke too much for you, Mike.)

No, it won't take you a year to go through this course. You, very well, could go through the lessons in a couple of days. Now, lets talk about applying the lessons. Priceless! (You will work at your own pace, too.)

It's a one-year membership because there is so much information and help available to you--both from Mike Anderson and the other students--that it'll take that long to get around to it all. In June of 2008, I will celebrate my FIFTH year as a student and member of PMMO, and looking forward to the NEXT five years to come! My journey in PMMO has brought me from a struggling beginner to a level of comfort, confidence, and personal enjoyment in my music. Yes you will work at your own pace. No it's not hard to understand. You will begin with very simple songs that you know and you will train your ears to hear the flow of those songs, both chord and melody. One step at a time you will progress to more complex songs. I am a real student that is just beginning but already I can play 12 songs by ear...no written music whatsoever. They really are simple songs and I play them simply but I can play them. I will need the full year but I feel that I am getting there. Delerna
