Oldham and District Model Aero Club

BMFA Club Registration Number 0342

Club Rules and Regulations.

Below are the Rules which were applied to the Peacoats site. There are additional Rules and Guidelines inserted for the new field at Bishop's Park. These will be up-dated as we gain more experience at the Bishop's Park flying field.

These Rules and Regulations are being amended to suit the flying at Crompton Moor to cater for the new site and the agreements made in the Planning Permission just obtained. These will be posted here as soon as they are ready.

1. Club Membership.

When you have paid your membership fees, you will be issued with a coloured Club sticker (yellow for 2002). This sticker needs to be positioned on your transmitter as proof of Club membership and insurance cover. Anyone not displaying the correct sticker will not be allowed to fly on any of the Club flying fields. Additional stickers for other transmitters can be purchased from Lancaster Models at 10p. each

2. Radio Frequencies.

Currently whilst flying at Bishop's Park, the following frequency regulations will apply :-

GLIDERS will use EVEN frequencies EXCEPT when being towed on the power field when they will use ODD.

FIXED WING, HELICOPTERS and TOWED GLIDERS will use ODD frequencies.

These rules would not apply to flying at Peacoats where gliders would not be flown nor would they be flown (unless towed) within any area where interference may occur.

PLEASE NOTE :- ALL MEMBERS MUST DISPLAY A FREQUENCY PENNANT ON THE TRANSMITTER CLEARLY SHOWING THE APPROPRIATE FREQUENCY NUMBER ON 35Mhz AND ALSO DISPLAYING A DISC ON THE FLIGHT LINE WITH THE SAME NUMBER. THIS DISC SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM THE FLIGHT LINE ONCE THE CURRENT FLIGHT IS FINISHED SO THAT OTHER MEMBERS KNOW WHEN THE FREQUENCY IS FREE. PLEASE ALSO ASK THE MEMBERS ON THE SAME FREQUENCY IF ALL IS CLEAR AS A SECONDARY POINT OF CLARIFICATION.

The frequency DISC should be ORANGE in colour with the frequency marked in WHITE or BLACK and with the name of the owner on either side for identification purposes.

3. SAFETY IS NO ACCIDENT !

FIRST - TRANSMITTER - This MUST NOT be switched on in the car park area or on arrival at the field until you have checked that no-one else is using your frequency. Common sense, but worth noting again.

SECOND - CRYSTALS - Again check with frequency control and the flight line disc arrangement prior to switching on and checking the frequencies in use at the time.

THIRD - FREQUENCY PENNANTS - The BMFA stipulates, and it is also a Club rule, that an orange pennant with white numbers must be used at ALL times in the 35Mhz. band.

4. All new models not yet flown are to be inspected by a Safety Officer or Examiner before permission to fly is given.

5. All take-offs to be INTO WIND.

6. All landings to be INTO WIND if possible.

7. After take-off you MUST turn away from any HOUSES.

8. Over-flying of Residential and Industrial premises is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN.

9. Over-flying of the FLIGHT LINE and SPECTATORS is STRICTLY FOBBIDDEN.

10. ALL flying to be in accordance with the BMFA rules and safety regulations.

11. No manoeuvres to be performed over the MODEL PARKING AREA, OTHER MODELLERS, LANDING AND TAKE-OFF AREAS.

12. ALL take-offs to be from the designated area of the day - wind dependent - and STRICTLY NO TAXI-ING to and from the model park area. The model should be carried out by a nominated assistant to at least 30 yards from the pits.

13. There will be NO SOLO flying by any member unless previously agreed by the Club Safety Officer and until you can fly up to the standard required for the BMFA Achievement Scheme "A" Certificate.

14. All Pilots to remain in a group whilst flying.

15. All take-offs and landings to be CLEARLY called.

16. GUEST fliers MUST produce proof of insurance and the accompanying member must be responsible for the conduct of their guest.

17. ALL SAFETY OFFICERS INSTRUCTIONS MUST BE OBEYED AT ALL TIMES.

18. ALL AIRCRAFT wishing to be flown at Bishop's Park MUST be noise checked by the appropriate Committee members prior to any take-offs or other manoeuvres. This is most important if we are to be seen to be performing the correct checks on this land. ALL noise test results will be stored and any change to the aircraft specification must be pointed out to the Committee so that the new checks can be performed to assure it is within the BMFA limits of 82dB. This includes any change to the engine mainly, but even changes in the propellor used can make a significant change - hopefully for the better. Any change to your model which can make it less noisey would be appreciated and help the Club as a whole. It was noted in one test that just holding the wheels (on a WOT4) made a significant change, by about 2dB, to the observed readings.

19. FLYING TIMES AT BISHOP'S PARK.

Flying times on this site are from "dawn till dusk", seven days a week. However, as we are on a 6 month trial, it is recommended that at week-end we do not start much before 10.00am. in the morning but we can fly till dusk. In the week, then earlier starts may be allowed as most people will be at work. Again, in the week, flying will mostly be done in the evening, say from 6.00pm. till 8.30pm. or 9.00pm. Those lucky enough to be able to fly on a week day MUST fly safely and with consideration for the other people around the Park ie. golfers, dog walkers, horse-riders etc. Your behaviour will reflect on the Club as a whole and be taken into consideration when the trial period is over in September.

20. CAR PARKING.

As most members have a key to get onto the site, via the main gate on Ripponden Rd., it would be appreciated if all members would park in a TIDY manner, preferably off the Bridle Paths, so that we do not incur the wrath of the horse-riding fraternity, for the previously mentioned reasons.
