Harp Strings
"Your harp will sound the best it can with high quality, tightly wound Markwood strings."
Quality Harp Strings
No harp can sound better than the strings that are on it. With Markwood strings, you are assured that you are buying from the leader in the field.
We have a specially designed and built string machine that stretches the cores of our strings, far more than our competitors can, with theirs, prior to winding the wrap. This means that when the string is installed on your harp, and stretched up to pitch, the winding cannot come loose. Strings made with winding that is too loose will have a poor tone and a shortened lifetime. Our machine's exclusive mechanized winding system provides far more even tensioning of the wrap material. This prevents false beats and inharmonic tone.
Your strings will give you many years of use.
Another advantage to Markwood strings is our packaging and computer filing system.
We have over 900 stringing patterns on file. If we have your harp in our computer files, you can call us, and just specify maker, model and string number. We'll have the gauges and vibrating lengths on our chart.
Computerized Stringing Analysis
Computerized Stringing Analysis is one of the unique services we offer. There are a lot of physics that goes into string selection. There are no convenient sources from which harpmakers can learn about strings. Many harpmakers, and players, come to us.
With this service, you tell us the vibrating lengths and the note range of the harp, we input this into the computer which provides guidelines for designing gauges and material that are appropriate for your harp. Using our computerized harp string design analysis program, we design strings that will give you the sound and feel that you desire. Strings are wound to the vibrating lengths plus 1-2".
We specialize in harp string problem solving. If you are experiencing excessive string breakage, or feel that some of the strings on your harp are too soft, in tension, or too taut, we can help. We have experience redesigning strings for harps that have been damaged and repaired. Our experience in designing custom harps with gut, nylon, or bronze strings, has taught us a great deal about what type of string material and string tension will sound and feel good, on different kinds of harps.
