WELCOME |
KEEP ON THE RIGHT WAY! |
THE BRAZEN ALTAR |
Exo. 27.1/8 |
The altar was the index, centre, circumference and foundation of the whole worship of the children of Israel. |
(3) THE DIMENSIONS OF IT. |
Remember the gate 20 cubits wide = 5 x 4 sides = 20 |
A/ twice the height of the Ark of the Covenant. the Ark was 2 1/2 x 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 |
Rom. 8:32 “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also |
freely give us all things? “ |
B/ The Altar was foursquare. |
The same on all side. This would signify to us Completeness = Equality There is no difference. Sinners of |
all ranks, from all Nations, in any condition, they are all needy sinners wherever they come from. They all |
need to come to the altar of Christ’s sacrifice at Calvary. Christ’s sacrificial work is the same for all. |
(4) THE HORNS OF THE ALTAR. |
These would symbolise strength or prevailing might. |
The horns were peculiar only to the Israelite altars. |
They pointed in every direction, thus signifying and presenting salvation, power, protection and refuge to the |
four corners of the earth. Mark 16:15 “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” |
The sacrifice was bound to the horns of the altar before being slain. Psalm 118:27 “ bind the sacrifice with |
cords, even unto the horns of the altar. “ It was not cords it was not nail that bound our sacrifice to the |
altar of the cross but the cords of love divine. Was it the nails O Saviour |
That bound thee to the tree |
Nay, was Thine everlasting love |
Thy love for me, for me. |
John 10:17, 18. “I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down |
of myself” |
The Horn of Salvation. Provided through the sacrifice of Calvary points to every corner of the globe telling |
that salvation is to the uttermost. |
Red and yellow, black and white, |
All are precious in His sight, |
Jesus died for all the children |
Of the world. |
God would assure all those who see to get right with Him Heb 9:22 “without shedding of |
blood is no remission.” |
Adonijah and Joab when fearful of Solomon ran into the Tabernacle an caught hold of the horns of the altar |
thinking that they would be saved by doing so but they forgot to bring blood and a sacrifice and to the |
altar and so the perished for not obeying the instructions regarding the approach to God was only by |
shedding blood.. Exo. 21:14. |
For the presumptuous sinner and hypocritical deceiver the atonement provides no no shelter while they so |
continue. So we must come to the altar of the cross accepting that the blood has been shed for our sins and |
receive the cleansing made possible through that same blood. After which we must then “ present “ our |
“bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is” our “reasonable service” Rom.12: 1 |
(5) THE VESSELS OF THE ALTAR. |
Here again we see the number five [grace] and the vessels of brass bringing before us enduring strength. |
A/ The Pans These were used for the ashes and were placed at the side of the altar [details later.] |
B/ The Shovels used for collection g the ashes and for feeding and tending the fire. |
C/ The Basons These held the blood of the sacrifice which was sometimes carried inside or poured out at |
the foot of the altar. |
D/ The Flesh Hooks These were used for arranging the sacrifice in order upon the wood. |
E/ The Fire Pans (actual censers) These were used for carrying the fire off the altar to the place where the fire was required to burn the incense either in the Holy Place or in the Holiest of all. |
It is with such censers as these that Nadab and Bihu offered strange fire before the Lord and died as a result. |
Lev. 10:1,2. |
When the plague broke out because of the rebellion of Korah, Fathan and Abiram, “ And Moses said unto |
Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the |
congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the LORD; the plague is |
begun. “ Num. 16:46 |
(6) THE FIRE. |
A/ It was Divine Fire. “And there came a fire out from before the LORD” Lev. 9:24 The fire which |
Nadab and Abihu offered did not come out of God’s presence “ Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, |
took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before |
the LORD, which he commanded them not.” Lev. 10:1 |
B/ It was Perpetual Fire “The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out”. Lev 6:13. |
Continual burning meant continual Sacrifice. |
This type is fulfilled by Jesus Himself who offered Himself “once for all” |
“ For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made |
higher than the heavens; Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own |
sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.” Heb. 7:26, 27. |
“ Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; “ Heb. 9:28 |
“ He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. By the which will we are sanctified through the |
offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. “ Heb. 10: 9, 10. |
