Their Location V 1 The wilderness

No satisfaction there - like the world - sin has turned this world into a wilderness - God says, “For my

people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them

out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.” Jer. 2:13

Their Need.

Man has a great need - water of salvation - “Jesus answered ........ ‘ If thou knewest the gift of God,

and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have

given thee living water’.” John 4:10

Not Pleasure - Not Power - Not Popularity - Not Possessions. BUT salvation is what man needs. Sirs,

what must I do to be saved? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved,” Acts 6:30,31

Their Murmurings vs 2 - 4 The cause of all murmuring and grumblings is unbelief in God and in

His divine guidance. The Psalmist says “They kept testing him and caused terrible pain for the Holy

One of Israel. They forgot about his power and how he had rescued them from their enemies.” Psa

78:41, 42

THE INTERCEDING LEADER. vs 4, 5.

Moses carried the problem to God. What shall I do...? Moses took the difficulty to the one who

God Knew Their Needs “God heard their loud cries. He did not forget he promise he had made..”

Exo 2:24 While the children of Israel were in slavery in Egypt they called on God. God said, “I

have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry..” Exo 3:7

God Could Meet Their Needs “When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their

tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them.”

Isa 41:17

God Revealed His Way of Salvation V 5

"Take some of the leaders with you ........ I will be there with you”

“Strike the rock with the stick, and water will pour out for the people to drink."

"I am the way, the truth, and the life!" John 14:6 “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved,” John 10:9
THE SATISFYING ROCK vs 6:7 “And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.” 1 Cor. 10:4

Christ the Rock for

SALVATION “let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation” Ps 95:1

STRENGTH “be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me.” Ps 31:2

STABILITY always trust the LORD because he is forever our mighty rock Ia 26:4

SECURITY my God is the rock of my refuge. Ps 94:22

SHELTER the shadow of a great rock in a weary land. Isa 32:2

SATISFACTION the LORD alone did lead him.... he made him to suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock; Duet 32 12,13

THE SMITTEN ROCK. v 6 Thou shalt smite the rock. And Moses did so

The Source Not until Christ was smitten on the cross, risen from the dead and ascended was the Holy Spirit poured out and salvation made possible. All our blessings can be traced back to Calvary.

The Divine must:- “as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be

lifted up:” John 3:14

“Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of

God,” Isa 53:4
