I thank God that I was born into a Christian family. I was the first child of four children, three boys and a girl. My father was a coal miner and a boxer and he was converted after going in to a prayer meeting to disturb it. My mother the daughter of a deputy coal miner and trusted Jesus at 14 years of age on first attendance at a gospel meeting. My mother and father met and married and the children were the result of that union.
Although my mother and father were Godly people, my father made sure that the boys in our family were able to look after themselves, so he bought us boxing gloves and a punch bag. He said because we are Christians we do not have to be soft. I had the privilege of being taught the Bible from a very early age, but did not come to know the Lord Jesus as my Lord and Saviour until I was 13 years of age. The way of life I knew, but I refused to walk in it until I was saved at the age of 13. A young evangelist had come to our church and preached that Jesus was coming back again and that all who were not saved would be left behind. Even then I would not have responded, but on leaving the church he asked the question “David, are you saved?” I shook my head, but on arriving home I could not stand it any longer, so knelt down a asked Jesus Christ to forgive my sins an become my Saviour and Lord. That is just what He did and I was baptised by immersion 10 days later and joined the fellowship of local Christians.
In 1957 at the Yorkshire Sunday Camp at Beasley Farm, Ingleton, Yorkshire, I met a young lady from Kingston upon Hull and we married in September 1959.
At camp in 1957 we were blessed of God by the salvation of over 40 boys and girls from all over the north of England. So a group of young men made the decision under the guidance of God to support those who had made a commitment to Jesus Christ at Camp. It was through this that the Camp Witness Team was formed. As a team we preached in the churches and in the open air, held campaigns, door to door visitation and as a result saw many come to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
I thank God He has richly blessed me with Marilyn a loving and godly wife, and we have six married children and 18 grandchildren. God has been pleased to save our children and many of our grandchildren. We praise the Lord has seen fit to use our three sons in the proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
I preached the gospel first when I was only 14 years old and also started and led a Youth Fellowship about the same time. This caused me to read the scriptures seriously to find the answers that were asked of me by young people. I thank God for that experience because it brought about great spiritual growth and a good knowledge of the Word of God in my life.
Since then God has given me the opportunity to preach world-wide and among many different races. Over the years it has been wonderful although difficult at times to pastor different fellowships. I have been involved in various areas of Christian work, both spiritual outreach and social work, which has given me a very wide expertise with children, young people and adults.
At the present moment I am the General Secretary to the Fellowship of Evangelistic Ministries, Pastor of a church, and have an international itinerant preaching and teaching ministry.
It has been a blessing recently to be used to lead souls to the feet of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and also baptising young people in obedience to the command of the Lord Jesus.
My wife and I are continually sensitive to the openings that God gives us to present the glorious gospel of His Son Jesus Christ. This, God willing, will be our joyful task until the Lord comes again or calls us home.
We await the trumpet call, and the voice of the Lord, as we rise to meet Him in the clouds and then forever in His presence we will praise Him.
