Humming Bird

Please remember to save your work often! 1.
Open a transparent canvas of 200 x 200 pixels.
Flood fill this layer with white, name it
background. Create a
second raster layer. Name this layer outline. This is the layer that we
will be drawing on first so make sure it is the active layer
by clicking on it. 2. With your
paintbrush set at size one, draw the outline by
following the pictures. These are the
colors that I chose but feel free to choose your own. Body:
#469A3A
Beak: #AE1517
Legs: #58748C
Wing feathers: #81A9BD 
(The blue numbers on this one are for reference when
doing the shading)

Pick your flood fill tool (the bucket) making sure that
your 'sample merged' box is checked fill in your
bird. These are the colors that I chose
but feel free to choose your own. Body:
#218432
Beak: #E45B69
Legs: #5E839E
Wing feathers: #83D8C7 This is what you
should have now:
 NOW
FOR THE SHADING! 4. With
your magic wand, select the body. Selections
> Float > Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout. With
these settings: Vertical = 2
Horizontal = 1
Opacity = 90
Blur = 12
Shade = #6AF59A Deselect. 5.
With your magic wand, select the back wing. Selections
> Float > Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout. With
these settings: Vertical = 1
Horizontal = 3
Opacity = 90
Blur = 10
Shade = #6AF59A Deselect. 6.
With your magic wand, select the beak. Selections
> Float > Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout. With
these settings: Vertical = -1
Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 80
Blur = 3
Shade = #830F12 Deselect. 7.
With your magic wand, select both feet (Hold down the
shift key to select more than one area at a time). Selections
> Float > Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout. With
these settings: Vertical = -1
Horizontal = -1
Opacity = 90
Blur = 2
Shade = #3D596F Deselect. 8.
With your magic wand, select section 1. Selections
> Float > Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout. With
these settings: Vertical = 1
Horizontal = 3
Opacity = 100
Blur = 5
Shade = #C7FDF2 Deselect.
Apply this same cutout to sections 2 and then 3 individually! 9.
With your magic wand, select section 4. Selections
> Float > Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout. With
these settings: Vertical = 3
Horizontal = 2
Opacity = 100
Blur = 5
Shade = #C7FDF2 Deselect. 10.
With your magic wand, select section 5. Selections
> Float > Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout. With
these settings: Vertical = 2
Horizontal = 2
Opacity = 100
Blur = 5
Shade = #C7FDF2 Deselect. Apply
same cutout to section 6. 11.
With your magic wand, select section 7. Selections
> Float > Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout. With
these settings: Vertical = 2
Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 100
Blur = 5
Shade = #C7FDF2 Deselect. 12.
With your magic wand, select section 8. Selections
> Float > Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout. With
these settings: Vertical = 2
Horizontal = -2
Opacity = 100
Blur = 5
Shade = #C7FDF2 Deselect. 13.
With your magic wand, select section 9. Selections
> Float > Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout. With
these settings: Vertical = 2
Horizontal = -3
Opacity = 100
Blur = 5
Shade = #C7FDF2 Deselect. 14.
With your magic wand, select section 10. Selections
> Float > Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout. With
these settings: Vertical = 2
Horizontal = -4
Opacity = 100
Blur = 5
Shade = #C7FDF2 Deselect. Apply
this same cutout to section 11. 15.
Make a third raster layer, name it chest, then draw in
the eye surround and the chest. These
are the colors that I chose.
Eye surround: #83D8C7
Chest: #285BDC (I have colored the eye
surround in red so that you can see it easier. You
might need to lower the opacity of the outline layer
slightly so that you can see what you are doing better)

Hide the outline layer by clicking on the glasses.
Make sure you are on the chest layer and with your flood
fill tool, fill in the eye and chest. These
are the colors that I chose: Eye:
#83D87
Chest: #285BDC 17. . With
your magic wand, select the eye area. Selections
> Float > Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout. With
these settings: Vertical = 2
Horizontal = -1
Opacity = 100
Blur = 4
Shade = #C7FDF2 Deselect. 18.
With your magic wand, select the chest area. Selections
> Float > Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout. With
these settings: Vertical = -2
Horizontal = 2
Opacity = 80
Blur = 5
Shade = #063BBB Deselect. Un-hide
the outline layer by clicking on the glasses. 19.
Draw in the eye using #000000 (Black) 
20.
Hide (or delete if you wish!) the background layer
by clicking on the glasses and then go to layers >
merge > merge visible. 21.
Save your humming bird as a psp. file for future use. That's
