To make this Donkey,
all you need is PSP, I wrote this tutorial in PSP 8 but
it can be done in any!
I have numbered lines of 3 or more.
1. Open a blank canvas 200 by 200 pixels and flood
fill with white (this is so that you can see what you
are doing!).
2. Create a new raster
layer, this is the one that we are going to draw on.
3. With your
paintbrush tool set to size one, draw the outline like
in this next picture using these colors:
(these are just my
choice of colors, please feel free to pick your own if
you wish!)
Main body: #404040
Under belly and nose: #C0C0C0
Hooves and mane: #000000

4. With the magic
wand, select inside the body and legs (hold down the
shift key to select more than one area at a time)
and flood fill with color #808080
5. Select the
under belly (including the front bit) and the nose and
flood fill with #D5D5D5
6. Select all
four hooves, tail and both bits of main and flood fill
with #202020.
NOW FOR THE SHADING!
7. With the magic
wand, select the body area.
Selections > Float > Effects > 3D Effects >
Cutout.
Using these settings:
Vertical = 4
Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 100
Blur = 25
Shadow color = # 202020
Deselect.
8. With the magic
wand, select the 'far side' legs.
Selections > Float
> Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout.
Using these settings:
Vertical = 4
Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 100
Blur = 25
Shadow color = #202020
Deselect.
9. With the magic
wand, select the nose (light gray bit!)
Selections > Float
> Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout.
Using these settings:
Vertical = 2
Horizontal = 2
Opacity = 100
Blur = 8
Shadow color = # 7D7D7D
Deselect.
10. with the
magic wand select both under belly bits.
Selections > Float
> Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout.
Using these settings:
Vertical = -1
Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 85
Blur = 6
Shadow color = # 7D7D7D
Deselect.
11. Draw in the
features like this next picture using color #000000
(black)

12. Using the
magic wand, select the eye and inside all four hooves.
Add a new raster layer with your paint brush, size 1
color #FFFFFF (white) draw in some highlights like this:

13. Add a
Gaussian blur of 0.7.
14. Hide the first
layer, (the white background) Merge > Merge Visible.
and save as a .gif.
That's it! Your done!
