Keith, we live on sandy/rocky ground, our farrier was just here for trims on our brood mares, two year olds and yearlings. They all had very little to trim off, just had to be balanced out; however, a few are wearing their heels with not enough toe left to trim them to their shoulder angles. Any suggestions. One little filly 18mo, is scheduled for flat training plates and we discussed putting on a slightly bigger shoe in the back and rolling it under to get her at a better angle. Will this be correct or do you have any other suggestions. We are Not trying to get a long toe; just making sure they will travel correctly and trimmed to their conformation.

Thanks, Patricia

ANSWER:

DEAR PATRICIA

LIVING IN SANDY AND ROCKY GROUND KEEP THEM IN BALANCE.  ON THE 18 MO COLT  LEAVE A FLAT PLATE ON THE BACK TO KEEP IT UP UNDER HER. Keith
