All-Metro runner Chris Wright (Mt. St. Joe) blitzed the hilly Baybrook Park course in 26 minutes 31 seconds to capture the Metro Harriers Five Mile Cross Country Championship. Harrier John Lundquist (Mt. St. Joe, Towson) placed second in 29:07 by picking off the early leaders while running through the pack. Freshman Ron Kirshner, Jr. (Susquehannock, Pa.) was impressive finishing third in 29:39. North County's number one and two runners Steve Jacobs and Tim Pratt placed fourth and sixth in 30:06 and 31:45 respectively. North County coach Ed Hart was top master placing fifth overall in 31:34.
Capital Gazette All-County selection Utonna Sherrod of Spalding won the women's competition in 35:32 followed by New Zealander Alison Wakelin in 42:50.
