This is the web site of the
Metropolitan Essex Fuchsia & Garden Society
which consists of a group of enthusiasts who are
Interested in gardening and in studying, growing, showing and having fun with our favourite plant
THE FUCHSIA.
Those of you who grow fuchsias and other plants in your garden, and who live on the Essex side of London, might be interested in coming along and joining in our activities.
Novices are welcome as well as experienced growers.
We meet at 8 pm
on the second Thursday of each month at
Christ Church Hall, Wanstead Place,
Wanstead, London E11.
But even if you are not in reach you might like to contact us
from wherever you live
to exchange news, views and ideas on the subject,
or to let us have date and details of your local shows
for inclusion on this site.

We would welcome contributions to this site,
especially if they contain your ideas and tips
on growing fuchsias, and gardening matters.
Our Society distributes a monthly newsletter to its members, and if your contribution was relevant, and you were willing,
it could be included in one of the issues as well as on this site.

WHY THE EMPHASIS ON FUCHSIAS?
Well, the Society was formed in 1965 with the prime object of studying and fostering the growth of fuchsias. For details of its progress since then click on the history pages of this website.
In November 2007 it was decided to re-launch the Society, incorporating the word "Gardening", to acknowledge the gradual widening interests of its membership, and to recognise formally that even dedicated fuchsia growers are also interested in growing other plants, and in gardening matters generally.
But our love of fuchsias remains, and will continue to occupy a special place in our activities.
The re-launch will be a gradual process, and it will take some time to reflect fully in these pages, and in our programme, the widening scope of our activities.
But we shall continue to abbreviate out title to MEFS. After all, it rolls off the tongue much better than MEF&GS, don't you think.
