About LASS

The Lincoln Area Soaring Society (LASS) is a chartered club of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA), Charter Number 1853.  Its mission is to promote the hobby of Radio Control Sailplanes in the general area of Lincoln, Nebraska.  The club's activities and facilities are restricted to "silent flight models", i.e., sailplanes and electrics.  We encourage those who wish to fly models powered by internal combustion engines to visit our sister club, the Lincoln Sky Knights.

LASS meets the first Tuesday of each month at the Willard Community Center which is located 1245 S. Folsom (Folsom and West B Street), Lincoln, NE.  Meetings start at 7:30 p.m.  Visitors are welcomed.

The LASS flying site is located east of the Lancaster Event Center, 4100 N 84th Street (84th Street and Havelock Avenue).  LASS leases this site and anyone flying from it must be a LASS member.  Visitors are welcomed to observe and discuss model sailplanes with the members.  Best time to find someone flying there is during summer weekends and when the grass is cut.

LASS participates in a number of sailplane events through the year. It founded the Midwest Slope Challenge Wilson Lake, Kansas. This premier Midwest slope event has been written about in past issues of the AMA magazine, Model Aviation.
