Despite my flu, the house is progressing OK, by my amateur standards. Whether it will be ready for a full Laing re-union in 2006 is looking rather doubtful, but there's always room at my rental house if you wish to come over. Maybe 2007 would be more realistic? The attached photos are quite recent, so you will see that I am now at the stage of completing the external walls. The open inner courtyard walls are already finished so I should have the roof on before the Aussie winter, such as it is, arrives next July. I am still enjoying the project and love living in this beautiful area. It is looking particularly green at the moment due to recent regular rainfall. Unfortunately, this also makes the grass mowing a regular chore, so every seven to ten days I have to stop building and spend four hours driving the ride-on mower, otherwise the grass just gets out of hand. I have become a regular fan of your TV show "Grand Designs" which I see every week on the satellite station. Brings back lots of memories of me in the UK years ago, battling against the rain and the snow. I can relate very well to lots of the problems the self-builders - as you call them - come up against. In Australia we are called owner-builders and we're not such a rare breed as in the UK. Particularly in country areas.
