Kingston Police Pipes & Drums

Bagpiper William Tighe started taking lessons for the pipes in 1998 and soon found that as a member of the Kingston Police Honor Guard, there was often a need for the pipes at various events. Officer Tighe would play, in those early years, in his regular uniform at parades and memorials. Several other members of the department expressed an interest in starting a small pipe and drum band. With the blessing of Chief Keller and some financial support from the Kingston PBA and Gold Shield Society, they went ahead and put together a traditional kilted uniform. The first appearance of this new uniform was the Memorial Day Parade in Kingston on May 27, 2002 with Tighe and Officer John VanEtten marching behind the Honor Guard at the head of the parade up Broadway. Officers Aley and Paulding will be on board for the St. Patrick's Day Parade in March of 2003.
