See Jungle! See Jungle! Go Join Your Gang Yeah! City All Over Go Ape Crazy

Bowwowwow's first full album is a gem! The opening song "See Jungle!..." embodies the thumping, pulsating drumbeats, passionate (and flirtacious) singing, and general "jungleness" that is the essense of Bowwowwow. Though Annabella's vocals would improve with later albums, she nevertheless displays throughout the album the throaty delivery and sense of lyrical fun that would make her the irreplaceable figurehead of the band.

Album grade: B

Below is the song list of the album, with my comments and grades:

Jungle Boy

Sweet and dripping with tribal goodness. You can see the maccaws flying in the background. Grade: A-

Chihuahua

Pleasant but forgettable. The lyrics are hard to hear, but if you try to decipher them, you'll still never understand what chihuahuas have to do with anything. Grade: C

Sinner! Sinner! Sinner!

Bowwowwow didn't have to tell a story with every song. In some cases, one word sufficed. This song features one word. If it sounds boring, it is! Pure filler! Grade: C-

Mickey, Put It Down

More filler. Mickey is holding something? Do you want to know? Grade: C

(I'm A) T.V. Savage

One of the funnest of Bowwowwow's songs! The rapid-fire lyrics and beat are a challenge to keep up with, but even if you can't, you won't care, since you're having too much fun. Surrender to the jungle fever! Grade: A-

Elimination Dancing

Dance to the death! Listening to this, you believe Annabella could and would! Grade: B-

Golly! Golly! Go Buddy!

Another rapid-fire song where it's the cadence of the words, not their meaning, that matters. Don't attempt to find meaning here. Piggy iggy-iggy eyes is all you need to understand. Grade: A-

King Kong

A slow moving but sweet and heartfelt song. Annabella sings lovingly about Kong, and anoints him with some of the better lyrics the band created: "His eyes are now showers." Grade: B

Go Wild In The Country

More fun! This song embodies all that is good about Bowwowwow. The delirious sense of teenage fun that we expect from a jungle-themed band reaches fruition here. As good as it gets! Grade: A

I'm Not A Know It All

A decent song. Nothing special but a pleasant listen. Grade: C+

Why Are Babies So Wise

Are babies so wise? This song makes the case. Lightweight but it fits in with the rest of the album. Grade: C+

Orang-outang

No words, just guitars and drums. A somewhat intense tribal symphony. Good! Grade: B

Hello, Hello Daddy (I'll Sacrifice You)

A sweet and serene ditty about Annabella as a jungle goddess, doling out life and death in her kingdom. If Annabella were a goddess, I'd worship her! Grade: B+
