It
is difficult to give an indication of the time it will take to complete
the layout of your book, as much depends on the number of pages, scanning
requirements, and the time taken by the author to check over the layout
at proof stage.
The
layout/typesetting process is detailed below. If you have any further

Price
is based on the number of pages in the finished book and the amount of
scanning involved.
The
layout/typesetting process, from receipt of manuscript to final print-ready
CD is as follows:–
- Convert
file from Word/text source – from e-mail, CD or diskette.
- Lay
to standard 140mm x 210mm Quark template (type area 105mm x 175mm).
Layout process (stylising chapter breaks and applying other design requirements).
Create cover from standard design set (scan pic of author for rear,
if required. Incorporate bar code, to be supplied electronically by
author). Other finished book sizes can be offered.
- Convert
to .pdf files.
- Write
1st CD for author’s revision (for alterations to layout, errors
in conversion from author’s originals, punctuation and spelling.
Major re-working of the manuscript is not included).
- Post
CD to author (Acrobat Reader required to open files - incorporated on
most computers, but available free as download from
adobe.com).
- Receive
corrections list from author (via e-mail/post). Carry out corrections.

Write final .pdf files and CD, print-ready. (Subsequent changes to the
manuscript are not included, unless to correct oversights or errors
introduced by Y.E.S. during the layout process.)
- Post
to author.
Other
services include:
- Handling
of graphics for incorporation in books. Scans can be made from original
photographs, negatives and positives, lineart, etc.
- If
authors provide pre-scanned images they must be in .tif format, at a
minimum 300dpi (half-tones), 600dpi lineart, on diskette or CD.
- Books
will be laid out in 11pt Garamond (plain, bold, italic).
- Final
CD will consist of Acrobat .pdf files of the inside and cover ready
for digital/litho printing.
- Y.E.S.
can provide a light editing service, if requested by authors. This would
require Y.E.S. to print off a copy of the manuscript and the subsequent
reading of same.
- Terms
of business - Payment for the pre-press layout of your book is due in
two instalments:– 50% when first proof is returned to author for
correction, 50% on completion of final print-ready CD.
