Radio Emergency Associated Communications Teams are volunteers who are organized internationally and use Citizens Band (CB) radios to provide public service communications for travelers and their local communities. REACT Teams use their radios to monitor Citizens Band Radio Emergency Channel 9 in the interest of safety. REACT Teams also provide communications in response to emergencies and for community events. We utilize CB, UHF, VHF, Amateur, and other   radio services.

Most of Illinois REACT Council member teams in their local communities, work public service events and an untold number of small local emergencies ranging from single family house fires, multi-unit apartment fires, brush fires, chemical spills, train derailments, to assisting during shelter operations by the Red Cross, Salvation Army, ESDA, Search and Rescue and other agencies during floods, and of course our relentless monitoring of Emergency CB Channel 9.

Besides our use of CB-9 and Amateur Radio, many REACT Teams also use radios called General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) and have access to local GMRS Repeaters, generally on the 462.675 MHz frequency. Some teams have more than one repeater, or may be on different frequencies.

REACT COOPERATION

Illinois  REACT Teams participate in their communities' disaster preparedness plans through cooperative agreements with the American National Red Cross, the Salvation Army, and the National Weather Service. Full text of these agreements are available for reading on REACT International's Web Site.

In addition, REACT International is a participating member of National VOAD, Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters. Many of our State Council organizations and local Teams are also members of their State or sub-state chapters of VOAD.
