1. The RUTH database was launched in 2006 with the assistance of Uttlesford District Council and funding provided by the LHI (Local Heritage Initiative).  It enables for the first time an online, searchable listing of documents (or copies), photographs and artefacts held in some 40 + Uttlesford village local history collections. This will provide a valuable supplement, in addition to record office, library and museum resources, for researchers seeking information on any of the places listed.

The input to the RUTH catalogue will be continuous, so it is worth checking once a month for new entries. Each item has a unique identifier which enables researchers to enquire further via the website to the Recorder concerned. This is believed to be the first such database to offer online access to village collections in this way.

Henham is part of this project.  It needs your help by identifying what historical items are hiding within the village.  It does not mean you are being asked to hand over precious items,  just to notify us of its existence.   Miss Winmill's collection of Henham will be one of the first  to be included  in this project.

2. A statistical record of the christenings, marriages and burials from 1539 to 1930 from St Mary's Church Parish Records makes interesting reading especially at times of wars and possibly plagues during the 1600's.

3. Notable Auctions Of Properties And Lands In Henham, Little Henham and Pledgdon between 1860 until 1922. These mark the transition to a post-feudal society where estates began to be broken up and homes started to become individually privately-owned. They provide a lot of information on plot locations (some maps are included), and the names of owners and occupiers of homes, commercial premises and lands

War Memorials
- There is a roll of honour memorial in the church which lists a number of names connected to Henham, however, I am having difficulty identifying them all, if anyone could help, I would appreciate it.

Audio Tape Recordings - A number of villagers who were interviewed on tape by Miss Winmill in the 1970's, I am inputting them onto the web as space allows: Click here to listen to them

When this web site was envisaged, it was anticipated that there were going to be just a few interesting articles.  However, the web site has taken a life unto itself and it grows monthly.  Each month I will show what new articles have been included. I have used a cut off date of 1950.  If you want information regarding current Henham life visit our  village website
