We are looking for a supply of Nickel Plated Morris Bells.
___________________________________________________________________________
So far we have found one piece bells from Percussion Plus.co.uk, these have
a lower pitch and are quieter than
the bells we have been using. This is due to the shape of the bell, the spherical
ringer inside and the fixing.

Brass 'Morris Bells'. These can be bought from the Morris organisations
or
or the Hobgoblin mail order. (from who's site I copied this picture, thanks)
They are the right shape and have the correct loop fixing but have a less
bright tone
than the nickel plated ones, I have no idea why this is so, it is only
electroplating.

So this is what we are looking for.
A nickel plated two piece bell with a loop fixing. The loop allows the bell
to move increasing the number of impacts.
The welted seam and the cylindrical ringer also add the the number of impacts.
The small mouth produces a
higher pitched, bright tone, to which the nickel plating responds better
than brass.
They also look better with Red, White and Blue ribbon on a white background.
So why are they not being made any more? dunno.
If you know of a source let me now on
Bagman@hartleymorris.org.uk
It looks as though we are going to have to place a special bulk order.
Either this will convince the manufacturers or wholesalers that there is
a market or we have will buy them and
sell them on at cost. so if you are interested in buying some please
contact me and I will see
what I can do. (no promises)
If we don't all get together I don't think we will have the buying power
to get them made.
