Thanks to the many hundreds of you from 54 different countries who visited this site and emailed me with friendly comments, anecdotes and "Traction" memories. I was very sad to part with her but she has gone to a splendid new home in south-west England and to a new owner who proved to me his love of interesting vehicles and particularly Citroens.
Best of luck Simon to you and your wonderful family. Jane and I wish you many years of fun!!!
I will leave the web pages online for a while as they have proved popular with enthusiasts interested in this amazing make and model. Read on .........
STOP PRESS ......................
12/07/99 - Simon collects his first speeding ticket - 45 in a 30 limit . I know I said have fun - but she's still registered in my name for goodness sake!!!!!
13/07/99 - Simon talks his way out of ticket - well done! His wife, a lovely petite lady, is finally offered a chance to drive the car and proceeds to impress him by confidently manouevring through busy traffic and parking on a sixpence. Reluctantly he must now share the car.
15/07/99 - Traction drivers cannot stop smiling as Simon finds out after some spirited cornering when she displayed her gentle understeer followed by auto-correction abilities.
17/07/99 - The headlights puzzle Simon - are they on or aren't they? The new 6 volt battery tries its hardest to impress but halogen bulbs might just provide the answer - watch this space. Backfiring - by using unleaded petrol and with careful adjustment of the ignition timing Simon induces her to backfire twice - a new and charming vice! He's still smiling.
24/07/99 - The driver's door window is very sticky in operation - so Simon carefully dismantles and inspects it to find all is ok. However, the felt runner is worn near the top so it is sprayed with silicon polish "Mr Sheen" and as if by magic it is cured. A repair in the best tradition of Traction ownership!
29/07/99 - Paint falls off the rear wing after a splashback of unleaded petrol - sorry Simon the warranty ran out five minutes before this! Actually the same thing happened to me several years ago and clearly my acrylic paint repair was not enduring - sorry. Simon still wants more light from the 6volt headlights and is now musing about a 12 volt conversion - watch this space.
02/09/99 - After heavy rain she refuses to start - catastrophe! But Simon is resourceful and recruits one of his children to vigorously turn the starting handle and all is well. Drying water out of the starter switch cures the fault. He can now even smile in the rain.
Reconditioned
Original
She is a left hand drive, Paris built "Normale" with masses of room inside for all the family. The bodywork is structurally very solid and the car is believed to have travelled quite a low mileage.
I have reconditioned all the major mechanical components and detailed descriptions of my work can be found by clicking the appropriate titles above (sorry if the photos take some time to load but they are quite detailed!).
Probably the most rewarding job was the conversion to a modern diaphragm clutch. This has transformed the heavy, juddering original into a light, progressive clutch which now makes the car a delight to drive.
This well known and loved car which has appeared in "Practical Classics" magazine is ready to be immediately enjoyed. It is available for sale priced at
£6,500
