Visiting Lisa Smallwood

Smyrna, Tennessee

Exciting adventure in Nashville, TN.

Good to be back in Nashville after being away so long. It was like my home away from home. My good friends, Lisa and Lauren are about to take me on a little trip down memory lane.
First stop is the old RCA Studio B. “WOW” man how I wish I could plunck around on them old “keys” again. Good times were had in that old building there.

Next the Country Music Hall of Fame

This is an honor for me to be considered a legend among the greats of country music. So many of them I considered to be friends and were a regular part of my life from the 50’s through the 70’s.

Next stop, The Ryman Auditorium.

Boy oh Boy this place sure has changed. The old front door is now the back door and they have a fancy new entrance.

I remember thinking what an awesome place this was when I first played here in the 50’s. I was soooo nervous. I also remember them not inviting me back because I caused too much commotion and was a little too “energetic” for them. Wow, this week in Nashville sure has been a true walk down memory lane. Thanks Lisa and Lauren for the good times.

Off again….

Visiting Karen Ramsey

Holden, Massachusetts

August 10-19, 2006
Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts

When I arrived at Holden, Massachusetts I had to wait at the post office for a few days before my hostess picked me up.  Karen was visiting Nashville and Memphis for the first time.  She had stayed at the Heartbreak Hotel at the end of Lonely Street with her husband.  They both visited my Graceland and said they really loved being there (however - not as much as I did!)

After I was picked up, we left on August 10 for Martha's Vineyard, a small island off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.  The only way to get there is to fly or ferry - we took the ferry.  Someone tell me, man, have I ever ridden on a ferry before?  I'm not really sure.  The day we left was beautiful; the ferry ride was a half an hour, the sky was blue, the water reflected a very bright sun, and the seas were calm. Upon arriving in Oak Bluffs, we drove off the ferry and directly to our hosts' house, friends of  Karen and her husband.

We sat on the beach and watched ferries like this come and go. This is similar to the ferry I was on.

The week was a very busy one.  During the day, we'd wander over to the beach which is on the backside of Oak Bluffs harbor.  The beach is small, but we just sat there and read our books, gazed at the waves, and watched the ferries and private boats come and go.

This is the house where we stayed; man, it is big and beautiful.
We stayed for 10 days in an old sea captain's house built in the late 1800's.  I guess you would call the style of the house Victorian.  Anyway, we spent many hours sitting on the porch talking, eating, drinking (some had adult beverages; me, I just stuck with my usual) and listening to 50's and 60's music.  At times, there were up to ten people sitting around the dinner table where we shared a lot of conversation, laughs and good food.

"Can't really see too much here, but the background is a "Gingerbread" house decorated with lanterns for Illumination Night."

On Wednesday night Karen and her friend Jeanne took me to Illumination Night in the Campground in Oak Bluffs. For two weeks in the late 1800s and early 1900s  the Baptists held their revival meeting here.  They would pitch tents for the two weeks; then built  wooden structures with canvas coverings; then built small houses on the land where the tents were.

The Tabernacle is a very old building where the Baptists held their Revival Meetings in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

They are called "Gingerbread" houses and are so close that some almost touch each other!  Illumination Night signified the end of the Revival Meetings.  At sunset, the campground goes dark and the only light that can be seen is the candle being lit in the Tabernacle.  After the candle is lit, it is used to light a lantern outside the Tabernacle which is a signal for the owners of the "Gingerbread" houses to light their own collection of lanterns hung from their porches.  We walked around with thousands of people to look at the houses; it was so crowded, that we could hardly move and left early.  I haven't been surrounded by crowds like that in a really long time!

We tried to go in and ride the horses on the oldest operating carousel in the U.S., but it was packed.

The next day we wandered over to the Flying Horses.  According to a post card I bought, it is the oldest operating carousel in the United States.  The horses have all been redone, and they still have real horsehair tails. Man, it was packed with tons of people waiting to ride the carousel.  As much as I would have loved to take the ride, the lines were too long and it was way too hot.

My hosts saved the best for last.  On Friday night, Oak Bluffs sponsored their annual fireworks display.  And you know how much I love fireworks!  We all walked down, parked ourselves in our chairs and gazed up at the sky. Again, thousands of people gathered in a huge park to watch a spectacular light show over the water. Everybody said this was the best fireworks they'd ever seen, and I'd have to say, man, it was great.  What a  way to end the week.

My visit reminded me of the times I spent in Hawaii with family and friends - just being together, hanging out, relaxing and having fun.  Man, I think I'd like to come back someday.

Thank you Karen that was a fun trip!

Visiting Liz Horn

Hamilton, Illinois Looks like I have some new fans here in Illinois..
Flat Elvis has been a very polite and courteous house guest here in
Hamilton, Illinois. His arrival was a complete surprise, much like the way
his larger than life counter-part travel, huh? Took a while to get acquainted with the family, mostly his newest fans, Myah and Alexa. ( not my kids!) We were happy to show Elvis around our little town, but the personal time was probably the best time.

Hearing the news that I was on his way, the Elvis Girls (L-R, Myah, Teresa, Alexa, and Liz) got ready for the big day by displaying their best outfits at church-and the roof did not collapse like some had predicted!
You know, Liz told me how she felt about cloning, but you couldn't tell that by all of my "clones".  Wait! I've been looking for that suit!

Next generation Elvis fans, Myah and Alexa. Aren't they cute!

Liz told me that she has me around for  security purposes, but how  could an intruder refuse a face like this?!?  Okay, so I'm bragging a little bit.

      Las Vegas

Having a nice visit with members of the Viva Las Vegas fan club here in Vegas and who should be here but my ole friend Jimmy Velvet who shared some stories of the good ole days going waaaay back - sure was good to see him again and know he's doing well!!

Visiting Terri Madonna Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania CHECK OUT THIS TRAINING CAMP!
My Boy My Boy; I am just so tired from doing  my world tour. Now I am in Schuylkill Haven PA at the front door of Ms. Terri Madonna.

Terri asked for my presence to escort her to events that were going on a town called Pittston, PA. I have arrived at her doorstep on Sat. the 29th of July to be her date on the 30th and the 31st of July.

On Sunday the 30th Ms. Terri along with her friends Doris Koogle and her aunt Pat from Frederick, Debbie Lippy and her family; Todd (her husband), Davey (son) and April her daughter took me to a place to eat called Savos.

This restaurant was pretty neat. It was decorated with dinosaurs and Debbie said that usually on the big screen on the wall the owner plays videos of myself. Fun was had by all; to eat I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and fries and then a belly wash (Pepsi Cola).

Well, Here is the second part of my adventure with Ms. Terri Madonna. On the night of the 30th of July, Ms Terri along with Doris and Pat Koogle from Frederick and Debbie Lippy and her clan we attended the Northeast Fair in Pittston,PA. The entertainer for the night was ETA Mr. Shawn Klush. I have to say, He does a pretty good job of imitating me and dresses just like me.My  Boy My Boy, It was just like lookin in a mirror. He was very very good at singing all my songs with full feeling and energy. So after my adventure of seeing Mr. Klush on Sunday the gang took me to see him again at the Schuylkill County Fair on Monday. Let me tell you this; Shawn's show was hotter that night due to him getting rest from the night before.

So now I am done seeing Shawn and before I go onto my next adventure; Ms. Terri took me to get my picture taken in front of Muhammad Ali's Boxing Training Camp. That was a big thrill for  me. So Terri and the rest of the gang, Thank you for a very  fun and exciting adventure in PA. Now it is time for me to see what town or country or state I will visit next. Thankyou, Thankyouverymuch!!!!!

Flat Elvis

Visiting Caitlin Rabideau

Lubbock, TX Flat Elvis at the Buddy Holly Center

Here I am at the Buddy Holly Center in Lubbock  Texas,  home of Buddy Holly. I found out that it was the  only  Buddy Holly Center in the world! I wanted to go
inside  and see Buddy's famous glasses but no camera's were  allowed :(

Here I am At Buddy Holly's grave. A couple of weeks  ago was his birthday and people came from England to pay tribute to him! All he has is that little  plaque, no statue or anything, but they do have a statue in  the middle of town which is pretty neat! I was glad  that I got to go pay tribute to an old friend.
Here I am at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum on Texas  Tech's campus.  I knew I had seen this place before then remembered that I had a concert here in 1976! Boy those fans  were great!

Here I am in Lubbock High School's auditorium. This is where Buddy Holly went to High school. On this stage, Buddy Holly won 1st place in the annual Westerner's  roundup! Pretty cool to be standing on the stage where another legend got started!

Here I am standing next to Caitlin whose a freshman at Lubbock High. She loves high school and is proud to go to school where Buddy Holly went! She named her dog after me and even got him my army jacket!

It was very special to hang out with one of my young fans who was not embarrassed to take me around with her. She has good taste in music.

Thank you Caitlin very much!

Visiting Mary McLaughlin

Bayonne, New Jersey I'm back in New Jersey  and New York again.

This is such a great poster inside Madison Square Garden showing the first  building. . Mary couldn't resist placing  me up here.

This is a picture of me in front of the Madison Square Garden building. I was such a big star there in my prime when I performed here, but you can't even see me pint size in Mary's hand.
Here I' am  with the beautiful Empire State building in the background. It is now the largest building in NYC once again.
We had gone to the World Trade Center earlier. Mary let me look around but it hurt me so  deeply  we left with no pictures taken.

Mary got real down and dirty to place me on the welcome mat at the Ed Sullivan theater. We had pictures taken at the Hilton where I made my press conference film before my Madison Square Garden appearance but they didn't turn out.

We went across the street to the Warwick Hotel where I had stayed in 1956. I thought I'd just stick around  here for a while.

Then we went to 30 Rockerfeller Plaza ...the New York  RCA building, but  boy I didn't  recognize it at all.

Cathy Saladino takes me to Utah to visit her friend Coleen Shiheiber  Utah Over looking Strawberry Point

Went on a trip with Cathy and Frank to Utah. Going there it rained, snowed and everything else you could think of.

On Sunday the weather was beautiful. Here I am by the mountain called:Strawberry Point.

Visiting Lisa Stewart

Madison, Tennessee Nice to be back in  Nashville again....

On Lisa's birthday, her mom, Mildred and I treated Lisa to Mexican food. IT was so good! This started off my trip to Nashville with a bang!

This is the front room of RCA Studio B - WOW! Look at me in that picture I looked like a tornado in motion. Of course, I still do!  Even the linoleum on the floor is the same - what a trip!

Wow! What a neat experience! Back inside RCA Studio B where I recorded over half of my musical catalog. I played this Steinway every time I was there. It was good to get back to it again!

Now, Lisa & I are at the Country Music Hall of Fame. Lisa & I went by to see my Solid Gold Cadillac. I was "pimping my rides" before anybody knew what it meant. I was always a head of my time!

This is Lisa and me down at Sun Studio II on Second Ave in Nashville. Imagine that somebody had such appreciation for "my" Sun Studio in Memphis that they wanted Nashville to have one too! I felt very honored!

Lisa took me over to Col. Parker's house - it's only 5 minutes from where she lives! I haven't been there in a long time - it was pretty cool to see it again.

Visiting Tina Barry

Alexandria, Virginia Tina takes me to Washington DC, last time I was at the White House  was when I visited President Nixon

Tina from Alexandria, VA was nice enough to show me around DC and her hometown of Alexandria.  Here are our pictures from my DC part of my trip.  We took the Washington DC Metro into the city.  I have to say that was an experience.  My boy, my boy, those things go fast!  Traveling by subway was fun.  We saw all kinds of vendors selling all kinds of things from maps, food, and even Halloween masks.

We went to the Washington Monument first.  Lord have mercy was that thing tall.  The sun was setting as we climbed the path to the foot of the monument.  It was a beautiful sight.

The following day Tina and I went to the Capital and the White House.  It was crazy seeing all the security around the White House.  It was almost like they had their own Memphis Mafia.  A lot of people were shocked to see me there.  I’m surprised, don’t they remember the Nixon incident?  I’ve been to the White House before!

Next stop was for a Hot Dog (they didn’t have any PB and J sandwiches) and then we headed over to the Lincoln Memorial.  Boy, The Lincoln Memorial was so remarkable in real life.

Tina was so good to me, taking me out to eat all the time.  We spent some time at the Silver Diner and IHOP. They even played some of my songs on the juke box there at the Diner.  And man did I love those Pumpkin Pancakes from IHOP.  She even gave me a bite of her ice cream cone once.  Her friend Beth made me breakfast one day too.  Boy, I could get use to this!

This is Tina and I having a fun photo shoot in her bathroom.  I even let her borrow my glasses for some pictures.

I will return soon after I complete my visit with Tina she has some other places to take me that sounds like fun!  See ya soon...

Not only did Tina take me around the Nation's Capital, Washington DC, she also took me around her stomping grounds, Alexandria, Virginia.  Boy was her house nice!  Her room was fantastic and she was nice enough to share her room with me for my entire stay.  Here are pictures of me in her neighborhood and outside her fancy crib.

Here I am at the Potomac River and also at George Washington's home, Mount Vernon.

Tina, baby, also was nice enough to take me along with her family to Kings Dominion Theme Park.  I went on all the rides with her.  My boy, I have never, ever gone that fast in my life!  What fun!

This is my below the Hypersonic Coaster.  Did I really go on that ride?  Yes!  Did I have my eyes open?  No!

Am I tall enough for this ride?

In case you were wondering how I rode all the rides with Tina, this is how we did it.  I was snug as a bug in her jacket.  Even when we were going 85mph, I was completely safe with her.
Once our day of fun was over at Kings Dominion, Tina and I said our goodbyes.  It was off to Bev and Sandi for my next adventure!

THANK YOU TINA I HAD A FUN TIME THAT ROLLER COASTER TOOK ME DOWN MEMORY LANE!

Visiting Debbie Marti

Lakewood, Ohio

This has been a fun vacation!

I was up early on my first day in Lakewood, Ohio and was happy to see
that the Marti family was serving Elvis Coffee.  I had heard it was a great cup of coffee, and I heard right!

It's been a long time since I was on the back of a Harley Davidson, but
like they say, it's like riding a bike!  We packed the bike up Labor Day
weekend, and took a road trip to Memphis, TN.

We stayed at a hotel in downtown Memphis, right across from The
Peabody.  Being there brought back all kinds of wonderful memories.

We found my statue on Beale Street.  They were sure able to capture my
likeness, but there's nothing like the real thing baby!

I took a stroll around the wall at Graceland.  Debbie and Dennis signed
the wall, with great affection I might add, and I offered to have my picture taken with it.  I was in awe to see all the signatures and declarations of love from my fans!

Here I am with Debbie in front of the Graceland wall.  We were hanging out waiting for our tour and reading the signatures on the wall.  People write the most touching things to me.  It was really beautiful.

We visited all the areas of Graceland and I came across my old Army
uniform.  I wonder if I can still fit into it?

I really got a kick out of being back on the Lisa Marie.  All those trips we took...I really enjoyed having my own plane and the freedom to go anywhere, anytime.

I was able to see my other smaller plane, too.  Dig the color scheme

Ahhh...The Jungle Room.  My boy, my boy....the stories I could tell you!  But I won't!

What a time we had visiting Graceland.  It was nice to go back after Elvis Week.  We were able to take our time and spend the whole day there.  It was great to be home

After a busy day at Graceland, Debbie and I stopped off at a cafe across the street for a cold drink.  Doc Walker, a DJ on Sirius Channel 13 Elvis Radio, spotted me and came over and interviewed Debbie on the air.
She was thrilled!!  He was very gracious and allowed me to have a picture taken with him.

I've always wanted to go to a pro football game and I got my wish!  I joined Dennis and Debbie at a Cleveland Browns home game and had a blast, even though the Browns lost.  There's always next year, guys.

Debbie and Dennis wanted to surprise me and take me to Tupleo. I was surprised!  To be back in the home I was born in.  There's even a museum and a chapel.  Imagine that?  What a trip this turned out to be.

I was very touched to see the statue of me as a young boy outside my
childhood home in Tupelo, MS
.

Here I am in the front room of my birthplace.  We visited with the tour guide inside for a while.  She was very knowledgable and gracious and was excited to see that I made a stop in Tupelo on my travels.

Debbie and I paused for a moment in the kitchen of the Tupelo house.
Mama sure made some great meals in this little kitchen.  I can almost smell the biscuits baking!

Visiting Jim and Sue Miller

Atkins, Minnesota IT WAS PLEASURE TO FINALLY MEET SANDI'S BROTHER AND SISTER-IN-LAW
"I visited Sandi Miller's brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Sue Miller in Aitkin Minnesota.  Sue took me to work with her at Riverwood Healthcare Center and introduced me to Val Thompson, one of my biggest fans! We had a great visit!!"

"Aitkin is a small town in rural Minnesota, but it's packed with fun people!  Sandi's brother Jim took me deer hunting!  Here we are with a good size buck in the next town over, Deerwood. "

"We took a trip to the Minneapolis/ St. Paul area and hit the Mall of America in Bloomington. It's a must see when you are in  Minnesota."

Visiting Ruth Daniel

Broken Arrow, Oklahoma

FLAT ELVIS IN OKLAHOMA

I arrived in Tulsa, Oklahoma to visit Ruth, but she was in Wisconsin visiting her parents and attending 2 David Phelps concerts there!  We finally got together to visit the Mabee Center where 34,000 of my fans witnessed my shows on March 1-2, 1974 and July 4, 1976!  The Oklahoma Fans for Elvis put up a plaque so everyone would know that I had been here!

We visited Oral Roberts University and I saw the praying hands.  I met Oral Roberts when I came to Tulsa the last time!

On Oct. 19th, Ruth took me to my daughter’s first Oklahoma concert in Miami, OK at the Buffalo Run Casino!  Wow!  I’m sooo proud of her!  She can really ROCK!  We were up front, but couldn’t take any pictures.  Ruth wasn’t able to get a meet & greet pass to see Lisa backstage, but I’m sure I could have pulled some strings!  Oh well, no pix, but I did get to see Lisa and she saw me!  She’s not signing anything that relates to me, and I understand this since she is working on her own career.

I met the DJ’s at the KROSS and KXOJ the next week!  These are the 2 Christian radio stations in Tulsa!  You can listen at www.kxoj.com or www.thekross.fm online.  Of course my favorite radio station in the Adonai Radio Group is the Sports Animal!  Ya’ll know how much I love football!

The last Sunday of the month, Ruth took me to Oklahoma City to church.  The reason she decided to drive soo far to church was because David Phelps was singing there!  WOW!  He has a three octave range tenor voice!  I always thought Roy Orbison was amazing, but David Phelps is the absolute best!  My friends who have heard David sing with the Gaither Homecoming concerts have all marveled at his vocal ability and stylism!

We went by the Oklahoma City Memorial on the way back to Tulsa.  It is a peaceful place now.

I enjoyed my visit to Oklahoma and it was great to see Ruth and her family.  I hadn’t seen her since she hung out at the gate from 1975 – 1977 and of course at those 39 shows!  Her husband (now) and she used to follow me around in Memphis!  I finally really was able to meet Ruth face to face in 1976!  Oklahoma is a great place!  There are a lot of nice people in this state!

Back in New York visiting with
Jessica Rivera-Brown

Brooklyn, New York

I sure love New York

Well, I finally arrived to visit Jessica in New York City, and I just done banged up my leg during travelin'!  Luckily Jessica works as a therapist in a Rehabilitation Unit in the city and she was able to fix me up real good.
Had to hobble around on crutches until the kinks worked themselves out!! Felt like Dodger must have felt when her 'thritis was actin' up!!

Nothing like some exercise on the bike to stretch them legs out!!! Gotta keep them in shape for my performances!

Once m'leg felt better, Jessica took me around the city and we ended up at Madison Square Garden. It's been a while, but I was mighty 'appy to see this flag up in rememb'rance of my concert there in 1972. Good to know y'all haven't forgotten me.

Times Square sure is pretty at night! Makes me think of Graceland during Christmas time.

That there weekend I got to New York City was the annual Marathon held every November.  I can admire the hard work those people put in to run that race! Uh-oh, think I got the crick back in my leg!! Jess, 'elp me!!!

Whew, m'leg feels better!! That gal Jess got some magic fingers!! I feel better especially now that I found me a bonafide NYPD police cruiser.  Them guys were busy workin' the marathon so they couldn't take me for a ride, but I was glad to have my picture taken next to the badge.  Now, can't remember if I ever got a badge from the Yankee cops in New York City!!!
My last day in New York, I decided to go see the downtown skyline. Lawdy, sure looks empty without the World Trade Center! God keep and rest the souls of the departed.

The Brooklyn Bridge sure is a breathtaking sight!! It was a mighty fine day for a walk over it!

Thank you Jessica for showing me around New York, I had a great time!

Next time I hurt m'leg I'm coming to see you!

Here I am in Oklahoma visiting
 Charle Reeves

Okemah, OK

Good ole Days in Oklahoma

I arrived Back in Oklahoma to see Charle. Charle is the President of the Elvis Presley fan club of Oklahoma. Here she shows me some of her things in her
home. I told her she sure has a lot of stuff of mine.

The next day we did some sight seeing.
Since Okemah is the Home of Folk Singer Woody Guthrie, Charle and her brother Zach took me around town to some of the Historical points. Here me and Zach Reeves pose in front of the Woody Guthrie Statue in the Center of town. The town has a really nice park to go along with it.

After we posed for the picture Zach tells me a lot of people say he has my hair and looks. I told the boy that was a compliment!

Charle And Zach took me to where Woody Guthrie and his family lived while they were in Okemah. Sadly, all that is left is an old foundation but one of the local chainsaw artists carved this from one of the tree's left at the home site. "This land is your land" is carved on the tree. I was honored to take my picture with it. It seems woody and me both
had rough starts. Coming back to a small town like this reminds me a lot of tupelo, and the all the struggles I had early on. It looks like woody and I had a lot in common. Sure makes me appreciate all my wonderful fans, friends and family I have.

This isn't the first time I have been in
Okemah. When Bill, Scotty and DJ and I were on the road in the early days we would often stop here since the main highway went right through. I stopped here at this gas station a few times, of course it has been
redone since then but I remember getting myself a Pop and Candy bar here along time ago. Charle Said her mom said it was all the buzz in town. Even made the Town paper back in the day. Funny how I cause such a commotion.

Well after a few days with Charle, she
wanted me to stay for thanksgiving. Of course I said yes! Here I am looking at some good looking pumpkin pie and cakes. Charle Also wanted to show me a picture of her and Lisa Marie. Charle said she just met Lisa last month when Lisa was in Oklahoma. Charle told me that Lisa really put on a good show and she can't wait for her next CD. She said She really likes Lisa and her music. After eating at the Reeves House it was time to go. I really enjoyed my Stay in Okemah. Nice
folks for sure.
Back In Fort Wayne, IN to visit Cindy Weigold Fort Wayne, Indiana

A wonderful reunion with old friends!

"I was so glad to be back in Ft. Wayne with my old friend  Cindy. We went out to dinner the first night to celebrate my return visit.

Cindy was lucky enough to get us great seats right in the front of the orchestra pit for the next nights B.B King concert! It was great to see my old friend B.B, listening to him sure took me back to my old days on Beale Street. I might be known as the King for Rock N Roll, but B.B is definitely the King of the blues!

The next day, Cindy drove me to Toledo Ohio for the Toledo Elvis Fest. There I was reunited with my friends D.J Fontana, Ed Bonja and The Imperials. I loved listening to the Imperials sing all of the great Gospel songs that we used to sing together, and I joined in the singing with them right from my seat at the head of the front table! Yeah that's right, only the best seat in the house for me.

D.J sure plays great and I love to hear his old stories from back in the day.

".I'm so glad Cindy invited me back to visit, I had some good time with good friends, and then it was time  to say adios and travel on to visit another one of my faithful fans"
