A brief Duers family History Kirklinton and Croglin Cumberland, England
(according to Ian)
The start of the trail goes back (so far) to the 1670s, with Alexander Duers whose son
Jerimiah Duers was born at Rockcliffe, nr Carlisle, Cumberland, England. For the next few generations, the family lived around the Westlinton region of Kirklinton Parish, Cumberland, England, residing in a few houses, namely Bogghall,Newhouses, Ross Castle, etc.
In the early 1800s, some of the family moved to the village of Croglin on the sideof the
Pennine hills, where large families were produced (see family information). The various families lived in and around the Croglin area and are still to be found there today.
In the late 1800s and beginning of the 1900s, quite a few Duers' emigrated to either
Australia or Canada. The name Duers has also been changed many times, to Dures, Dewers, Dewars, etc; (this was the failing of parish registrars in the early years).
Other families I am interested in obtaining information about are Armstrong, Baxter,
Bird, Bouch, Charlton,Crookdale, Dixon, Dobson, Duers Dewers, Dures, Fletcher, Galloway, Graham, Hill, Ivison, Miller, Monkhouse, Palmer, Proud, Prudham, Sewell, Tallentire,Taylor, Tiffin, Topham, Young. In the future (when I get the time) I hope to learn more about them. |
