440 Thousand Pound Solid Brick Home

This building is constructed of solid brick.  Its' dimensions are forty eight feet long by twenty four feet wide.  The house moving support beams have been installed and it is ready to be lifted off the foundation.

In this picture the building is lifted twenty four inches off the foundation.  A total of twenty four hydraulic jacks were used to lift the four hundred forty thousand pound building.

The building now rests on the ten hydraulic dollies.  These dollies are linked together to float the building on a cushion of oil.  Four of the ten dollies have hydraulic drive motors which will propel the building over the roads.

Moving day!

  An artful display of cooperation between police, city crews, utility companies and the building movers was necessary to successfully move this building.  All involved parties performed flawlessly.  (Photo courtesy William Curtindale.)

The building is now in position and the wheels are being removed.
