Charles and Pearl lived at Carr's Creek, Blairs Creek, Pumpkin Hollow, and Wilderness, Missouri. After their children were grown, they moved to Mountain View, Missouri where they lived the remainder of their lives. Charles was a logger and farmer. They raised hogs. Charles and his sons often went hunting and fishing. Pearl raised a garden and canned the food. She was a good cook and made great homemade biscuits, which she taught my mother how to make. She often prepared the wild game and fish Grandpa Charley and the boys brought home. This is how they provided for their family during the Great Depression. Their son Chester David Shepherd, died at the age of seven. He was playing with Clarence and a friend when he fell off a log and drowned in the creek at Pumpkin Hollow, Missouri. Clarence and a local minister tried to save him, but was not able to do so in time. He is the only member of the family buried in the Pumpkin Hollow Cemetery.

Chester David Shepherd
was born September 11, 1919 and died April 18, 1927

The border around Chester's grave was built by his Uncle William Henry Boxx.
It was removed in 1990 by the cemetery caretaker as it was too difficult to maintain.

Dollie Boxx

was born April 1887 in Williamsville, Wayne County, Missouri. There is very little information available about Dollie Boxx. We found her, in 2002, listed on the 1900 Wayne County census record as a child of Jonathan and Mary Boxx. We did not know about her before, and we have not been able to find any information, except what is listed on her death certificate. She was married to Charles Murry. She died in Williamsville, Wayne Co., MO on December 18, 1922 and was buried in Dees Chapel Cememtery, Greenville, Wayne Co., MO. The day she was born in 1887 appears to be April 1st, but is obscurred by other writing and could possibly be April 7th. Cause of death is listed as a "tumor in abdomen." The doctor states "I never knew positively just what kind," and lists duration of condition as 4 years. Dollie's parents on the death certificate are listed as Jonathan Boxx and Mary Dees. The death certificate information was provided by her brother, Ed Boxx. We very much want to learn more about Aunt Dollie.

If anyone has any information about Dollie Boxx Murry, please contact me by email. Thank you.
