The Cherokee Tribe of Northeast Alabama is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation organized exclusively for charitable, scientific, literary, and educational purposes and for memoralizing the history and culture of the Cherokee.
We are currently working on two goals:
1) To establish a facility to help educate all interested persons in the history and culture of of the Cherokee indian. This facility will be called Cedar Winds. The first stage of construction has already began but we still have a long way to go. The Cedar Winds complex, when completed, will include an educational/ cultural center, museum, campground, amphitheater, gift shop with hand made native crafts, and an authentically re-created Cherokee village where demonstrators will be on site teaching the crafts of our ancestors. Currently our tribal members visit many public schools, when requested by the school, to teach the history of our ancestors and this had become quite a task with so many schools making the request. With the completion of Cedar Winds, the schools will be able to bring the children on a field trip to us. This will give them an opportunity to have a 'hands on' experience in such things as pottery making, corn grinding, and many other things that have been passed down through the generations. While educating our youth is a top priority, this facility will be open to those of all ages who wish to learn more about the Cherokee people.
2) The establishment of a tribal scholarship fund to help offset the expenses of educating the children of our tribe. Our children are our future and their education is of utmost importance.
Our goal of seeing the Cedar Winds project completed can not be accomplished without the help of all those who wish to help preserve the Cherokee history and culture.
