The following are some issues

by Mrs. Yael Kaisman

The following are some issues/needs that I may have. Which words in Shemonah Esrei deal with each of these requests? By Mrs. Yael Kaisman

1. Sometimes I get angry about "small" things that people do to me. I get annoyed when I feel that people take advantage of me in any way (for example, borrowing money and not returning it, counting on me for rides). I wish that I could overlook it.

"Vinafshi Kiafar Lakov Tiheyeh"- My soul should be like dust to others, and have enough of a sense of self to be ok when others step on me- stop making everything into a power struggle. Also, be Dan Likaf Zechus. (Read "The Other Side of the Story" by Mrs. Sammet.)

2. My friend always seems to be chosen for many positions (for example, G.O., school play), whereas I am not. Sometimes I find it difficult not to be jealous.

"Lo Ta'aleh Kinas Adam Aly, Vilo Kinasi Al Acheirim" and "Shalom"- We should be united and see all of Bnei Yisroel as one.

3. I am really sorry that I read the magazine that I did while in the doctor's office. Certain thoughts enter my mind because of it, and I wish that I could be protected from such situations.

"Hashiveinu", "Atah Kadosh", "ViliYerushalayim", or "Visechezenu Einaynu"- We must keep our sensitivity to Kedusha and guard our eyes if we want to see the Shechina in front of us.

4. An act of Hashgacha Pratis took place today, and I feel so grateful about it! (For example, I wanted to go shopping and my friend called me, out of the blue, and invited me to go shopping with her.)

"Modim"- Hold on to our daily acts of Hashgacha Pratis!

5. I've learned about Bitachon so many times and I've thought about it often, but I still feel more secure when I'm in charge of a situation. Trusting in Hashem is something that I wish I felt, but it's hard to internalize.

"Al Hatzadikim- Vchol Habotchim Bishimcha Biemes, Visim Chelkeinu Imahem"- Put us amongst Ba'alei Bitachon!

6. My allergies are really bothering me. I'm miserably uncomfortable and I'm finding it difficult to function normally.

"Rifaeinu"

7. Sometimes I feel that many of my Kochos are not really being fully developed, whether they be in personal, social, or Ruchniyosdik areas. I know that I can try harder, but I really feel frustrated at my lack of progress.

"Tikah Bishofar Gadol"- Until then, we work hard, because something is missing.

8. People are always asking me, "What's your major?" I enjoy Science, but I'm also thinking of teaching. I wish that I was clearer about which area would be wisest for me to pursue.

"Atah Chonen", or " Hashiva Shofteinu Kivarishona"- We need Nevi'im back to help tell us what to do.

9. Despite all of my attempts not to feel this way, I still feel "angry" about some painful events that have taken place in my life. I wish that I could stop feeling this way.

"Atah Chonen"- Clarity, and the next Bakasha is "Hashiveinu Avinu Lisorasecha"- When we have clarity, we crave to be close to Hashem. So too, we crave to get frustrations of relationships out of the way.

10. Sometimes I am so disappointed that I cannot be Mekarev my irreligious relatives because of all of the misconceptions that they have.

"Vilamalshinim"

11. With all of the complexities that exist in the world of Kashrus nowadays, I try very hard to be careful, but the more that I hear about the problems, I feel that I need so much Siyata Dishemaya not to be Nichshal.

"Bareich Aleinu Es Hashana Hazos Visabeinu Mituvecha"
