Group Meeting - CACS members and guests sharing our own concerns. Our guest speaker will be Stephen Wank M.D., Chief of the Digestive Diseases Branch, National Institute of Health. He will give a presentation on the Familial Aspects of Carcinoid.
Dr. Stephen Wank received his undergraduate and medical degree from
Duke University.
He performed his internship and residency at the John’s Hopkins
Hospital resulting in board certification in Internal Medicine. He
went on to fellowship training in gastroenterology at Stanford
University Medical Center and in endocrinology at the National
Institutes of Health and has achieved Board Certification in both
subspecialties.
Dr. Wank has been a tenured Senior Clinical
Investigator in the Digestive Diseases Branch of the National
Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases at the National
Institutes of Health since 1990 and became Chief of the Digestive
Diseases Branch in 2004. Dr. Wank has been involved in basic science
research in gastrointestinal hormones and receptors and clinical
research in gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors dating back
to 1984 with an emphasis on gastrinomas arising either sporadically
or in the setting of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 1.
Presently,
Dr. Wank has turned his attention toward the investigation of
carcinoid tumors, with an interest in familial midgut carcinoid tumor
and type II gastric carcinoid tumor. Dr. Wank will be presenting a
description of his new clinical research protocol that he has
initiated at the National Institutes of Health entitled “The Natural
History of Familial Carcinoid Tumor”.

From I-495 going North: (Orange lines)
Take route 50 west (exit 50 B-A). Note that the ramp is actually just past Gallows road and long before route 50.
You will pass over route 50 and then loop around onto 50. STAY IN THE RIGHT LANE.
Take the exit from Rt 50 for Gallows Road North almost immediately after passing the on-ramp for 495 south
Bear right onto Gallows Road. (continued below)
From I-495 going South: (Green lines)
Take route 50 west (exit 50 A-B). Note that the exit for Gallows road is from the ramp and that you never get to rt 50.
Take the exit from the 495 Off Ramp for Gallows Road North just before getting to Rt 50

Once on Gallows Road North (Orange and Green line)
Move to the left lane and stay there for several blocks until you arrive at Route 29. Pass route 29 and continue on to Prosperity Ave a short distance later.
Turn left at the intersection of Prosperity Ave and Gallows Road
Continue on Prosperity Ave until it begins to turn south. The building on the right at 2700 will be the Life With Cancer Family Center. Park and come in the front door where signs will direct you to the CACS meeting room located in Suite 100.
