1964 Austin Cooper 'S' This Cooper 'S' is a near original car that was brought into the US from Turkey by an Airman assigned to Wright- Patterson Air Force Base. At that time the original engine was not in the car and the engine in the car was not running. In 1980, the Airman sold the car, in its non-running condition, to a current Museum member who fixed the 1100cc engine in the car and ran it with that engine in it until 1999. The car has a roll cage inside as it was run on European road rallys while the car was in Turkey. The roll cage was modified by the new owner to allow the rear seat to be placed back in the car. Modifications had also been made to the hydrolastic suspension. These modifications were removed and the suspension returned to the normal configuration. There are marks in the side where a sponsor name was removed and also on the bonnet where a number circle was placed on the car. None of these have been touched and the paint, while showing it's years of wear and some abuse, still shines and the car has done consistently well in Mini Meet Concours and at Car Shows where it has been entered. Many miles have been placed on this car, driving from Dayton, OH to Montreal Canada, to Greenville, SC and to Knoxville, TN as well as to many auto shows in the tri-state area. In 1999, the original engine was rebuilt and replaced in the car giving the car a much needed better gear ratio on the highway. The 1100 cc engine was a "stump puller" with loads of torque in first gear, on the highway it consistently turned 5500+ RPM all day with no sign of getting tired. The car is on temporary loan to the Museum for its automotive display. Photo by Dick Smith 1964 Austin Cooper 'S'
