This cool old roadside welcome station has been serving up hospitality to
road warriors and tourists since 1962! According to the lady I talked
to at the counter, it is the oldest continually operating
Welcome Station in the United States.
Alas, it lies on old U.S. 301, just south of the Georgia/South Carolina
line, which is the once mighty tourist corridor than has been bypassed
by the boring I-95. Still, adventurers and roadside explorers stop by
enough to justify the State of Georgia keeping this relic alive.
Due to budget cutbacks, that could change. This station needs more than
anything else to have visitors stop by and SIGN THE GUESTBOOK to show
Georgia that there is enough interest to continue funding it.
Look at the cool early 60's architecture, particularly the space ship
influenced roofline. How many old Buicks with portholes and outrageously
finned Cadillacs must have stopped here?
Stuck on Stuckey's would like to encourage all Roadside America buffs to
visit this Welcome Station and SIGN THE GUESTBOOK! And while you are at it, travel
U.S. 301 instead of dull old I-95.
