RESTORATION OF WILLIAM HENRY TRETTON
A 5" GUAGE 4-4-0 STEAM LOCOMOTIVE
WILLIAM HENRY TRETTON IN THE WORKSHOPS AWAITING RESTORATION.
There never was a Southern Railway Engine named, 'William Henry Tretton' but there was a well known engine driver, who was my much loved uncle. I therefore decided, that as this locomotive is likely to be our largest engine
that it was a fitting tribute to name it after him. More about my uncle will appear later, for those who knew him, or are just interested in a man who devoted his entire life to the railways.
I rescued the un-named locomotive, from a delightful couple in Ely near Cambridge, where it had sat for the last 20 years, gently rusting away in their garage!
The locomotive also came with a partly constructed six wheeled tender, which is currently being restored.
The boiler is to be tested before any further work on the locomotive is done. Also I need to make sure the engine & tender can negotiate my 10' radius curves!
