Western Writers of America, Inc.
Qualifications for Membership

WESTERN WRITERS OF AMERICA welcomes all published writers who derive
their livelihood, in whole or in part, from writing about the land and the
peoples of the American West, past and present. Our membership includes
novelists, historians, essayists, journalists, poets, screen writers, and
others. Applications for membership are judged on an individual basis and
the requirements for the different levels of membership are somewhat
flexible.

     MEMBERSHIP LEVELS AND REQUIREMENTS

ACTIVE: Multiple publications intended for a general readership are
required for Active membership. The number will depend on the kind of writing
you do and what proportion of your work concerns the West. Three or more
trade books (fiction or nonfiction) about the West will entitle you to
Active membership. For journalists, feature writers, short story writers, and
others who publish in periodicals, a history of publication in nationally
or regionally distributed newspapers or magazines will be required, with a
substantial proportion of this work being about the West. A combination of
published books and articles may reduce the number required in either
category. Screen writers' work must include stories about the West and must
have been produced and exhibited. Annual dues are $75.

ASSOCIATE: Publication of a single book about the West or a lesser
number of short stories or articles than is required for Active membership
will generally qualify you for Associate membership, as will current
participation in one of the following occupations, if your work substantially
concerns the West: publisher, editor, bookseller, literary agent, literary
reviewer, librarian, film or television producer or director, artist or
illustrator. Annual dues are $75. Associate members have all the rights of
Active members, save that only Active members can vote for WWA officers or
on proposals to amend the constitution and by-laws.

No vanity press work can be considered for membership at either the
Active or Associate level.

SUSTAINING: Any Active or Associate member who wishes to contribute
further support to the WWA may become a Sustaining member by paying annual
dues of $150. Sustaining members retain all rights and privileges of their
Active or Associate status.

PATRON: Companies, corporations, organizations and individuals with a
vested interest in the literature and heritage of the American West may
become Patron members by paying annual dues of $250. Eligible organizations
include but are not limited to publishing houses, presses, libraries,
museums, and wholesale and retail booksellers. Active and Associate members
of the WWA who choose to become Patron members retain all rights and
privileges associated with their professional membership status.

All levels of Membership include a $30 subscription to Roundup Magazine.
